Dog Door Options

I recently moved, and would like to put in a dog door to stop with the expensive daily dog walkers.


Does anyone have any experience with any kind of dog door?


I've been looking at just cutting a half door myself, and adding a door flap:

I just helped my brother install what looks like that exact same dog door in his house. He didn't really need help except that he had no tools to do it himself. We took the door off, cut the hole with a jigsaw, and put the door in. All told, the actual work was probably an hour? Lots of time measuring and remeasuring of course.

That was only a week ago so no long term experience but he said with a few treats the dog started using it right away and he likes it so far.

The cheaper ones tend to freeze up in the winter and often lets cold air into the house. I had one went in the patio slider door but later found out from neighbors my dog would bark at people on the path behind the house so i had to axe that idea.

The door for the dog should be a really more difficult design so as not to let in so much cold air into the house in winter.
