Anything 25 years old is worth fixing. Appliances are junk these days.

One thing to check on any new dishwasher is the cycle time. Some are ridiculous 2-hours for a wash.
"Auto" mode is almost 2h on mine, but I run it in quick mode (50m), and my dishes are always clean.

    One a week.

Handwashing though, I did that for 6 months when last one died, and I was waiting for a decent deal to show up. Our water bill went up significantly. So much that the extra expense negated the savings.
How much water do you use washing dishes by hand?? I never use more than a sink full. That said, I am on my own well so no worries about water bills either.

My Miele is definitely 2 hours plus. But it’s been great after I had to toss the Bosch.

Just make sure you get something with a heat-dry. I made that mistake once, and it really sucks having to dry every single dish you just used a machine to wash. Tupperware still gets me though haha - that shit just will not dry.

The "Prowash" on our KitchenAid does a phenomenal job and everything comes out clean and bone dry with zero water pots except for Tupperware. It takes 2.5-3hr though which seems excessive but I'm not watching it so I don't really care haha.

If you rearrange your schedule to wash overnight it's no big deal. But if you forget you'll get the rage for sure.

Agreed, which includes newer Bosch dishwashers. I'm on #3 and they last warranty + 6 months before some random control board failure. This last one I've biker wired and trained the wife on the special procedure to start it successfully. Do not recommend. Otherwise it does clean very well and is quiet.

That surprises me. We got our bosch ~4 years ago, use it literally every day, and it's been a champ.

Try a whole house surge protection system. About 200$. Appliances are getting more and more sensitive to electrical transients. Furnaces, dishwashers, fridges, microwaves, etc.

Whole home surge protection actually sounds like a good investment.

Stupid easy install too. Just takes up a slot in your panel.

Took my brother all of 12 minutes to install.

What detergent do you use? Some dishwashers seem really picky. I like my bosch, feel that it does a good job is is decently quiet. They sell more expensive ones that are supposed to be more quiet.
I use the Finish all-in-one packs for detergent and that seems to work better than whatever stuff I bought before. They go on sale at costco and superstore every couple of months, so don't pay full price and it's a decent value.

Kirkland brand in my Bosch was a nightmare to use up the whole tub.... never again.

I’ve landed on the cascade platinums from Costco being best bang for buck, and no not the regular cascades that aren’t nearly as good.

I also run one of those finish dishwasher cleaners through once a year which helps with lingering odours and makes the stainless inside shine.

I don’t have a contact but our old one quit this summer and we went to trail and they convinced us to buy an ASKO dishwasher vs a Bosch we were looking at. Its by far the best dishwasher we’ve had. Has a built in water softener and a built in fan and plastics and dishes all come out dry and no spots and have yet to have a dirty dish. Also has some other nice features with ease clean filter etc. https://www.trailappliances.com/asko...inless%20Steel

Does anyone remember when dishwashers did their single designed function correctly, every time and you never had to give it a second thought? It's a miracle we lived through those decades with all the extra cups of water they were wasting. What a stone-age bunch of children hating, planet rapists we were.

We are so much better off, now.

Sorry this post took so long to compose. I had to go buy another dishwasher in the middle of it.

I grabbed a dish washer from Best buy and grabbed the extended warranty for it. The geek squads been great. If my tenants clog the dish washer they'll come out and unclog it for free. At one point they offered to replace the dishwasher as it kept getting clogged even though the issue wasn't the dish washer it was my tenants.

Also had samsung come out for free and fix my 12 yr old microwave in another rental. When does a company ever go the extra mile like that?? I'll put samsung or bestbuy appliances in any property moving forward.

Right? I was just thinking last night that a company who just goes a builds a quality, low maintaining functioning appliance without a computer board that can be repaired when broken for a normal cost would probably start cornering the market again. It has gotten ridiculous. I just want a fridge that keeps things cold, a stove top and oven that heats things up and if a dishwasher, it just washes dishes. WTF does it need all these stupid fucking setting etc that grenade the second moisture gets to a control board. So stupid...

I have an older Eaton model, but my favourite sparky recommended going with a Siemens. mid range unit.
