But luck was definitely a factor in some of the earlier doors that opened up for me, performance and work ethic covered the rest. The hardest thing sometimes is getting that initial opportunity. Good luck with your hunt!
I have to say that my career started by a pimp oversold a noob's ability to temporary replace someone who got held up by the Feds on their PR process. Not that I don't put my everything I got into it but that got the ball rolling. Looking back and around luck, ability, connections all plays equal roles.

Luck plays a huge role. Best job I ever had, and one that I excelled at, I was not at all qualified for, and honestly a poor technical fit. But cultural fit was perfect, and the picked up the technical pretty fast, and it went great, until the company pulled out of the country.

My company is doing layoffs recently, and while I haven't been axed, I am certainly keeping my ears open for opportunities, and have applied for a few. Anyone need a Petroleum Engineer, generalist among the various "downhole" topics like Drilling, Completions, Production etc? Have experience on both producer and service company sides of the desk.

I might need an ops/sales/whatever guy in the next couple of months. Someone who can talk to people and know drilling performance etc. Have to get these tools in the ground first though and get some hours.

This may be exactly up my alley. Wanna chat over a coffee or beer?

Man you have had a rough go of it the past few years, hoping you continue to pull through, hoping luck is on your side with this one!

I've been making continuous changes to my lifestyle that have put me in a somewhat more resilient position than the first time I was laid off. But yeah not looking to go back on the EI if I can help it.

Cocaine is a helluva drug. Glad you switched to crack. Dirty street drugs are easier on the budget.

Job posting activity on the service side of things has for sure picked up a lot in the last few weeks. If you are one of those "between opportunities" then make sure you are not just taking the summer off your search, spend a few days refreshing everything and work the phones to your network to get your name back out there.

I'm about to lay off some underperforming staff, but of course don't want to go through the hassle of "terminated for cause" or anything. What's the minimum legal severance in Canada? A few of them have been working for me for several years.
Just two weeks pay in lieu of two weeks notice?

In a position to be accountable for other employees, with enough responsibility to be the person laying them off, yet can't use google. A+.

Depends if they consult a lawyer. Very few people will qualify for minimum severance.

    The real question is…

Is RurrJurr out of time out yet? Or is he still pouting because people made fun of Tesla.

Are there any HR professionals in here that can attest to this type of mass succession planning going on at their workplaces? I'm wondering what the future employment situation will look like in the near future. I am interested in transitioning to oil and gas but I don’t know what the demand will be like with the demographic changes. What are some other industries and careers that will thrive in the coming years?

Don’t take your anger out on the Paul Revere’s spreading the truth about the Big V. Take your anger out on those who coerced you, and encouraged you to sacrifice yourself for the globalist end game.
