I love oil and gas and on the whole its treated me well. But yeah, I'm exploring the options outside this industry. Last time I attempted a pivot I got shot down repeatedly by employers and re-training organizations. Actually think Oil and gas might need me for another decade or two yet, which would be nice. These days I do aggressively save to handle another extended layoff though.

I imagine looking to pivot out of oil and gas while actively employed in O&G probably makes things easier. Shows you are looking to actually leave the industry, not just looking for a job in the mean time. The few friends I have that left the industry did it this way.
