Hearing Leclercs radio to his engineer was very interesting. So a driver can change specific parts of engine mapping settings while in the cockpit? Or was that just conversation on which map to put the car in?
I think those changes isn’t to change the mapping, but to ignore certain sensors to bypass engine protections. Typically these engine issues are the software seeing something wrong with a sensor and kicking in protection to not grenade. Teams analyze if it’s ok to bypass and instruct drivers on turning on the necessary bypass.

Neat! That was interesting to hear; sense of panic with some calmness and coding. Italian tuneup on the fly rofl

Max vs Hamilton was basically a game of chicken. I was rooting for Max but he pinched Lewis.

Ferrari calls it alpha. Rbr calls it fail modes.

That’s actually a good run down on the first lap. Note ham backing out of turn 6 while way ahead. He knows he’s got more to lose knowing max going to claim the line. Ham isn’t “lucky” in his incidents, it’s just good risk assessment.

I also find the Schumacher comparisons to Hamilton funny because if you’ve followed his career, his chop is actually what max did, not Hamilton haha.

Right out of the rulebook, saw this posted on Reddit... Dont see how this can even be debated.

Thats assuming that Hamilton even hit the apex, which he clearly didnt. Bullshit penalty, if you are pulling moves like that the penalty should be harsh enough so that you can't take a victory. Now Max will be down an engine, chassis, etc and it will take out of the racing at the end of the year.
Just catching up to this thread. Never seen this before, any links cuz I’m genuinely curious what the official rules of engagement are.

That said, I think this is more of a description of a divebomb. Hamilton was alongside at entry. He did slow down though which is how his front wheels hit Max’s rears. Screen cap of in car at entry:

I agree with you @rage2 .... Hamilton knew exactly what he was doing and when he was going to do it. It was excellent risk management.

While I agree that it's a racing incident, as neither would back out. But I feel they need to issue the penalty regardless. It's a much bigger impact than Norris or Perez last race and the definition is that Lewis caused the accident being the car that's doing the overtaking, you have to have control over your car. Martin Brundle was surprising logically to state that fact (and not being a Lewis fanboy).

    Fun analysis I found.

Covers a bunch of passes at copse.

So lots of drivers can manage a pass at Copse....except Lewis.

Dealing with race control, that’s fair game. It’s the public whining to the media that doesn’t sit right with me, considering how hypocritical RBR are when it’s the other way around.
Fair enough. I give credit to Mercedes for not complaining too much about the rake issue (although arguably, Mercedes delegated that job to Otmar).

I suspect they would whine a lot more if issues didn't typically break in their favour (rear wing, anyone?) but I guess we'll wait and see how the season plays out.

My favorite is Lewis at the end.... "I'm so proud of this victory."

    Which part Lewis?

    Punting your competitor?
Beating a Ferrari that had problems?
Watching Bottas pull aside for you?

Lewis has this weird sense of entitlement that comes off more like Paris Hilton than a race car driver.
    1) Two drivers, who have been fighting for position on lap 1 basically all year, creating contact?
    2) Why shouldn't Bottas pull aside for Hamilton? Bottas has been behind LeClerc all race and wasn't able to close the gap. Hamilton is pushing and was able to close the gap (on, I think, slightly fresher tyres). If your teammate is making the push, why would you hold them up? A potential 1-3 finish is better than a 2-3 finish, no? It's not like Bottas moved out of the way for another driver/team like Norris.
    3) Again, Bottas, for whatever reason, wasn't able to catch up to the same Ferarri that was having engine issues.

If someone wanted to pay me Vettel’s contract to pick up trash I’d do it with the biggest smile on my face lmao

Nobody batted an eye when Perez pulled over for Max.

Also, the Ferrari was only having engine issues mid race. It was corrected and didn’t have those issues at the end.

I don't have an issue with any of those things.

So take your win and stfu Lewis. It's the "I'm proud" nonsense that makes Lewis look dumb.
