Fantastic drive by Lord Russell. Third on the grid! A great fight holding out during the race and not fading out into parmesan cheese.

Good drive by Max. But it was a good move by Merc on Lewis. The ghost of Ron Dennis came for McLaren. They were too focused on the prize and not the race. Gutted for Lando. But good experience for him.
It's heartbreaking because Lando's engineer called him in to box, but didn't listen. Sigh

Haha I know it wasn't you guys. Regardless of the difference in opinions I don't take you guys as the types that would take such underhanded actions. Haha.

It's just funny though, by next year if I have swapped out my vehicle, I might be arguing for a different driver/team.

If someone has an opinion that is different than mine, then express it here, rather than leaving me a negative rep without signing your name. FYI it's not too hard to guess who it might be but good to see how you operate.
I gave you some Positive ones sometime back.......

merc was going to do the same thing. They only pitted to cover max as that was who they were truly racing against. So basically lewis is unbelievably blessed yet again.

This makes it less heratbreaking, IMO. Lando learned a hard lesson about listening to the people that have more information on hand than he does. If he didn't hear the guidance, or they didn't give it, that's another story.

Pre-1:16 is important too. Engineer didn't really call him in, he said they'd have the same intensity rain for the remaining laps and asked what he wanted to do. Lando was given bad info/team guessed wrong on the weather holding off. That sucks for him. Had they guessed correctly on weather, and ideally made it clear he should come in, he could have made an informed decision... that's not what really happened though.

I am surprised they gave so much power to Lando to make the call. Especially him being such a young driver. I would have thought race management would have ordered him to box rather than ask him? There are other factors in the race that the driver cannot compute. I would have thought McLaren directing him.
I learned this from playing Gran Turismo..lol

On Lewis's radio. He was asked then there was a direct order to box.
Was it a lack of experience on McLarens part? or luck? Or Merc having better race management relationship with Lewis? Or a bit of all three?

I agree. He was not called in.
He wasn't called in, but I think he (and really I think this applies to the whole team too) was blinded by his desire (greed is too harsh nut slightly more apt word) to win the GP when he said no to boxing. I think someone on the pit wall should've made the order, but I understand their willingness to leave the decision up to Norris.

That's funny you see it this way. It seems like even when Max obviously lucks into an excellent result, Max fans somehow turn it around on Lewis yet again. I watched the race and heard the radio calls, it was quite clear that Merc essentially forced Lewis to pit. Lewis did not want to pit and even ignored the call first time because he was quite close to catching up Norris. Merc made him pit because they knew/or thought that the small drizzle is expected to be a big splash right away. Unless we can read their minds, I don't think at anytime Max running at 7th was a concern for Lewis or the team. McLaren also asked Lando to pit but he ignored it and thought he could make it to the end and I feel the team didn't say it forcefully enough. They also probably didn't think the rain was going to suddenly come down either so it was an unlucky strategical call. The biggest 'luck' gain today quite obviously went to Max and that is fine cause ultimately that's the nature of this sport and in addition to your skills, luck also plays a big factor.

Hypothetically, even if we agree that Merc did the pit stop to cover Max because it was 'him who they were truly racing against', then why does the call to pit Lewis to cover Max count as luck? I would say that would be a smart strategic decision if anything and nothing to do with 'luck' in the situation. Perhaps you mean Ham was lucky coming 1st due to Norris' bad call? Even then had Norris won, Lewis was second and Max was 7th. The point difference between the two would have been much greater in Lewis' favour in that case had that been the end result.

Though I do think that as a constructor, Merc deff got lucky as well. Because of the last minute rain Bottas gained like 10 spots and ended up at a decent points position which of course helps Merc as a constructor over RBR.
I am only saying that because Toto literally said this right after the race. He also said that, had they been in first, they would not have been as confident with the decision to pit as HAM was saying it was OK on slicks.

Just looking at the calendar. No Singapore noodles or Japanese style Chicken Katsu Curry on the menu. I was even tempted to try and make the latter as a pre race meal.

I was reading Giovinazzi did not even have radio for the Russian race. I wonder, in such circumstances do they not use the old style boards when they pass start..?

Lewis is taking an engine penalty in Turkey. Surprised Merc is only changing the ICE.
