Hey everyone,
I haven't been on beyond for a long time. Anyway, i'm looking for inexpensive HID kit with ballast. I remember vvme, but i don't think they're still in business. Any recommendation?
Thanks folks

I personally think LED's have surpassed HID's they're more reliable, and WAYYY cheaper... i wouldn't even look at HIDs anymore.

nah, they've surpassed HID's even when (both are) used in a shitty reflector housing, lol...This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Yup LEDs are the way now.
There is more to it then just saying that LED is better then HID. The orientation and design of the LED bulb is very important and you really do need to get the right bulb for your projector or else your light does not end up on the road and ends up in the housing.
I’ve run both LED and HID in my Sierra with oem projectors. Both were a midrange brand (BPS). And the LED lasted around 2 years before failing and I found the light output was okay but over time they slowly dimmed. The orientation was extremely important because there would be dark spots and they would not hit parts of the road if they were not orientated properly where both filaments were reflecting properly. The projector also used a moving lens to adjust for the high beam using the same bulb as the low beam and the high beams were useless because the bulb orientation was not right for the high beam.
I’m now running BPS HID’s and the light output is so much better because you get 360 degrees of light output from the bulb. Lights up the whole road and the high beams are so much better. Almost 2 years on these and no issues.
I would do a little research on your headlight housing to determine whether type of LED bulb or HID bulb would work best.
In before snowcat drops by and loses his shit.
LED’s are the way to go, easy plug and play installation and super bright in my halogen reflectors. I think I paid $35 bucks on Amazon
And glares like absolute shit. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I’ve had the Morimoto kit on my Sierra for 6 months. It’s their 5500k bulb, 35w ballast. Used ProLightz out of QC based on a thread on here. Retrofit Source is also a good one
Are you looking for bling or headlights that actually work really well outside of the city? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
No.. just.. no.
Retrofit projector HID is still the best
If i can have the best of both worlds than why not. Bling for me would be anything over 8000k and also don't want to get flashed by other drivers. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I've been using Ess out of Sask for lighting parts.
The guy really knows his stuff and could probably set you up with HID or LED real quick.

Projector retrofits are pretty much a must have for HIDs - with LEDs there are some bulbs that actually recreate the exact dimensions and light qualities of a halogen unit. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Around 6500k is the sweet spot for white light ive found. This is a crystal white colour (at least thats what mine put out).
Yeah, it really depends on the type of housings you have, even if they are reflective.
I have run some LED bulbs in projector housings meant for halogen bulbs with no glare issues.
On the flip side, seen some success with reflective housings as well, but there are also those that are just terrible. So do your own due diligence and test this stuff out before you piss people off and look stupid on the road.
LED's have come a long way. I was borrowing a friends car for a while with some cheap LED's in regular housing. Asides from flickering, I was very impressed. But as others have mentioned, some now claim to replicate halogen light patterns. After some research, I may try the IPF units. Mind you they are $400 vs $100 cheapos. Here's a good review if anyone is interested.

Damn those look sick, i really like them. Yeah i wouldn't go over 6500k and like Revelations said "it's the sweet spot for white light"This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
There are tons on amazon, i'm sure i can find something.
