From some of the articles I read, it wasn't just about snow. These people had a feud going for a long time. It doesn't justify the response for sure but is also a warning that there are consequences for your actions...sometimes really severe ones.

Yep, judging at how long the guy was chirping I almost guarantee this was a long-time issue that just boiled over to this sad incident.
