Sigh. Bring it inside and let it warm up for 6-8 hours BEFORE you start charging it. Then change it, somewhere with good airflow. Then just drive straight to the parts store to trade it in on a new one. If your battery wasn't fucked when this thread was started, it probably is now.

Its shocking you didn't take care of this already.

You might find out fast if itís totally frozen by boosting it...
It isn't frozen. He has power to all electronics still. Just not enough to turn the engine over.

that was almost a week ago... it's likely toast by now if he didn't deal with it then.

I literally leave my house once a month and that's only for emergencies or appointments, I want to keep my exposure down and I work from home so it's no big deal. I just got into a disagreement with a F350 last month so I need to bring my car to the body shop on Wednesdsay, otherwise I'd wait until the spring to deal with it. I also have 3 cars so this wasn't such a high priority for me.

The battery's in my basement now, I finally got it out. When I went out to get it there wasn't any power at all, I actually had to use the key in the door like some sort of neanderthal. I'll wait until tonight and then either put the charger on it or use the CTEK trickle charger from the Porsche. I'm not sure yet which would be better.

Well, you've taken every precaution to ensure this battery is damaged at this point. So charge it with whatever you want and just plan on replacing it soon.

What kind/brand of battery is it? When you took it out, did you here any sloshing sounds or is it a totally frozen block? Also, do you have a multimeter?

I suggest a couple of lemons to really get that trickle going.

Now that you've done a Mar - use the CTEK as it will reject a bad battery immediately for any charging. If it DOES accept it, do the lowest charge level possible. I rescued my wifes completely dead batter (interior map light left on) this way, over a 48 hour period - far better for it than a quick charge.

Seriously, some times I wonder how Mar can even get through life. Seems like a sitcom.

Got into a "disagreement" with a F350... Nice, lol.

I just dont get how someone can come on here and ask for advice and be told by multiple poeple how to deal with it and that it's probably ok because there's a little power but if it freeze solid you will need a new $150+ battery.... and then ignore that advice for 5 days of arctic temperatures causing it to be totally borked....

Probably okay.....I didn't know for sure if it was already frozen. I only knew it, "probably wasn't frozen.'

you said the lights came on and it unlocked, that means it had power, that means it wasnt frozen solid.

Here's the battery. I hooked up both clamps to the terminals, is this acceptable? Normally I know that's bad and one is supposed to go to the frame.

And also the CTEK, I set it to RECOND hoping that will help.

Can it be partially frozen? I admit, I was too scared. I had to know for sure if it could safely be started in that state.

All good Mar. That charger, if I'm reading it right, is good for 5 amps, which is plenty to recharge overnight.

you normally use the frame to eliminate a bad ground to the starter when boosting, also it reduces the chance of spark above the battery where gases can accumulate and ignite. Here you're trying to charge the battery, so direct to the battery is best.

All 7 stages of CTEK charge complete and the battery is back in the car. Thanks, everyone.
