    Default Fire Gina Carano ??

Apparently Gina Carano (from Mandalorian) said this:
Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,”

It's melted the internet as #CancelCulture calls for her head.
I don't understand why. Can someone help me understand why this statement is or could be seen as offensive (without saying that I am history's greatest monster)? If I'm missing something, I'm happy to learn.

Why are celebrities dumb, dont they realize they have too much to lose by saying dumb shit like this. Especially with the sensitive public view.

It's pretty weird how people can't separate the following two things:
    1) what it's not against the law to say
    2) what will upset the people who can fire them

Being "right" or "accurate" isn't the point at all. Public figures, and those who represent companies (managers, salespeople and spokespeople especially) need to say NOTHING on controversial topics.

Pretty sad because my kids and I really liked her in Mandalorian, and I think the show will be worse without her in it.

Really??! While there may be a more cosmopolitan term for Jewish people in 2021, I can tell you with certainty that my school taught me, repeatedly and verbatim: "6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust". Probably her school, too.
So, it's not like she said "kikes" or whatever the shitty ethnic slur is for them. It sounds equivalent to saying Indians for First Nations People. It's not hateful, it's just allegedly not as enlightened as the latest acceptable term.

I agree with her on that post, but it wasn't a single tweet that decided her fate, there was a pattern of tweets.

Actors/actress's have to realize they aren't a Canadian Prime Minister, and can't get away without consequences.

What is in the past doesn't mean its correct in the future. Come on.. You should know by now that crap like that is going to get all the feel good people out there revved up and looking to fight.

Being attacked and persecuted for being Jewish is different than being hated for something you have complete control over and consciously decide to do. Nobody is classified as an 'anti-masker' or 'election fraudster' or 'Holocaust appropriator' by birth so they can be rounded up, branded, enslaved, and exterminated. There's also a difference between the state sanctioning the persecution of people based on political beliefs, and corporations weighing the value of employing somebody with potential loss of value to the brand. Thinking they're in any way similar is thinking 'there shouldn't be consequences for my actions.'

To contextualize it further, it comes a month after Jon Favreau used his clout to keep her on the Mandalorian after her anti-mask and election fraud comments caused ire, and now in the fallout after that she's likened her "plight" (being attacked on social media but remaining employed on a major studio production), to that of the Jews being beaten in the street in Nazi Germany. The Mouse is very self-conscious of its social status nowadays, so they aren't going to put up with dumb social media comments twice in two months.

I love how people on social media are all about free speech and the right to an opinion, until its contrary to their opinion, then they viscously attack until said person's life is ruined.

Cancel Culture- the great paradox of the 21st century.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences. No one is calling for her arrest. I have every legal right to walk into my CEO's office and swear at him all I like, but I can't expect to keep my job after that.

In Hollywood, the audience is just one of many actors bosses. Without their approval, they "get fired" either quickly, or slowly by just not getting any rolls.

That'd be nice. If playboy was still going like it was in the 90's, it would definitely happen.

I do know that, but folks shouldn't give a shit about making "feel good people" or woke people want to fight. They are a group that cannot be pleased, so there is little sense worrying about things one cannot control.

I was looking to see if this particular statement is actually hateful and inflammatory, or, if this is just another example of woke morons losing their shit because they haven't had something to march about in several minutes.

It sounds like it's more complicated and that it really wasn't about this statement, alone. That's a bit of a relief because I find looking at that with cold eyes to be a long way from the dumbest or most hateful thing I'll read today.
As with virtually all comparisons to Nazi Germany, it does seem to either trivialize the Holocaust or exaggerate the severity of the warm milk in your cereal (or whatever the comparison is being made to), and, neither of those is a good thing in an argument.

My takeaway? Wow, it turns out the girl who used to wail on people for money and transitioned to the only actress on the popular nerd show (who just happens to have sweet tits) turns out to not be an enlightened scholar on historical comparisons to modern society. Le shock and awe!!¡!
The end. I think a slight bit less of her. I don't think she should lose her job. Her manager should tighten her social media leash. And, back to coffee.
I have actual things that matter to worry about.

Just a good reason why entertainers should stay the fuck out of politics on social media.

I thought that was funny, too! It should always be ok to mock someone who is pretending to have a legitimate medical condition. And let's face it - actual trans gender people are extremely, extremely rare while most of the mob is just sad and confused people wearing makeup or getting short haircuts, trying to fit in. Plus, it's a Star Wars reference!

I don't think you understand freedom of speech... Freedom of speech is strictly concerning the government regulating what you can say. No one is being limited in terms of their speech. They are however reaping the consequences of getting on a soap box and yelling stupid things in public. That has nothing to do at all with freedom of speech. I swear did you folks all fail social studies?

The people screaming in outrage are actively and successfully campaigning the govt to set new boundaries on free speech "because we don't like what that guy is saying".
So, yes it is about free speech, to some extent.

Show me these supposed charter changes you're talking about. I'll give you a hint they don't exist...
