    Default Virtual restaurants - discussion

So we had a chat about ghost kitchens, and this "Mr. Beast" thing has been in the news:

What's everyone's opinions of these restaurants that have no eat-in options? Will they thrive in a post-covid world?

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

I have no interest in them; they'll stick around, as there is a market for them... I wouldn't go as far as to use the term "thrive" though.

I don't see what the issue is, if anything its a good thing, there are people out there who probably want to share their food/recipes but have no intention on hiring servers etc. I don't get the logic that you have to be able to have people in a restaurant to serve take out food.

I don’t understand the issue as long as they aren’t being deceptive about it.

They offer food you buy food, you like it you go back, you don’t like it you don’t go back.

Plenty of places I’ll order delivery from that I would never set foot in, I don’t see how having a storefront is a requirement.

I think so, typically your servers make more money than your cooks when you factor in tips and such. Scrap those and you have more money to spend on good food and build a cult following on taste.

I'd rather see popups where they are take-out only but have a actual storefront you can pickup from. If its skip the dishes only I'm not a huge fan of that as I don't really like the app companies and what they do to squeeze businesses now.

In terms of these ghost kitchens, and the Mr Beast ones specifically, it all depends on who is cooking your food. If the quality is not there, it won't last. The videos I've seen from Youtubers in the States trying Mr.Beast food was it was actually tasty and good. But the two I've seen from Canada, one in Edmonton, one in Toronto have both been failure. But the hype of it and demographic of Mr Beast audience, might keep it alive.

Look at the grilled cheese sandwich in the first video...epic fail if thats the food coming out of these kitchens

2nd video, restaurant had no Mr.Beast branding on the food anywhere

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

they'll be fine as long as they can adapt quickly if things change, i would imagine given their popularity on social media they could or would have capital to adapt if needed.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

Assuming they don't do this I like the idea. Just one more option for takeout/delivery, maybe it makes booking chef's for private events a bit easier too.
