Is this Chia business going to go anywhere? I should think China can FAR out compete for hard drives and will just crash the whole thing.
That's nuts. I am casually mining ETH and I am only getting about $10/dayThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Thats pretty much what is happening right now. That said, i still think once pools are released, there is some profit to be had mining. Currently at 100 plots myself. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
So NH just so happens to take the time during this failed “hack” to update the wallet page with an exchange rate with a massive spread from spot price... and we’re supposed to believe the locked payouts have nothing to do with the dump in value? Riiiigght
The game is rigged, as usual, and nothing favors the little guys.

I don't think the issue with Chia right now is the concentration of farming in China. A lot of Eth and BTC mining is in China right now and both those have grown over the years. I think the bigger issue is just general adoption of Chia especially when Eth moves to POS. At that point, ETH's validators would probably consume less power than Chia (which is what one of Chia's main selling point is), and ETH already has a lot of institutional support and adoption. That being said, it's a lot cheaper for hobby miners like myself to get a decent Chia farm going vs other POW tokens, so I'm going to keep plotting and see what comes of this. Worst case I burn through a few SSDs and have a lot of external storage left sitting around. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I read somewhere that in order to participate in Chia Pools you'll need to have some Chia in your wallet. Apparently there are some Chia Faucets available though which will give you a miniscule amount of Chia. Here are a couple that I've found:

Swapped to ethermine overnight since NH won't let you withdraw for free to coinbase right now. Avg $9.23USD/24h ($11.12 CAD) @ 115MH/s
Swapped back to NH, and already supposed to be earning $12.55 CAD @ 118MH/s
My 1070 does run more efficient on t-rex tho. 21MH/s @ 77W for 0.3MH/J vs 24MH/s @ 89w for 0.27MH/J.
3080 is about on par. 95MH/s @ 205w for 0.46MH/J

Casual observer here. You guys are mining this stuff to make ~$10/day along with any price appreciation?
My dad is still mining with NH.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I moved to Ethermine for now and yeah earning is lower than NH but I'm going to wait until CB withdraw is available again before going back to NH.
100MH/s is earning me only 0.0035ETH/day (8.5US$)
I'm mining for BTC and ETH, no plan on selling them for the next 2-3 yearsThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I'm considering selling off my gpu miners if anyone's interested. At the moment it's doing about 825MHs (not aggressively overclocked) over 4 rigs consuming about 4kwatts of power. It consists of gtx 1060s and gtx 1070s and a single gtx 1070 ti. I can provide specifics if anyone is interested, but PM if there's interest. I'm not even sure what the real value is, just a lot of inflated asking prices on kijiji. Figure with summer coming, I don't wanna deal with the heat and can use those funds to aggressively mine Chia instead lol.
What's your guys opinion of ShakePay? I like that they're willing to take etransfer since Coinbase will only take CC and they charge me another $5 per transaction.
Ultracrepidarian
Finally got my 3060 ti Dell G5 rig today.
Set it up with t-rex using ethermine pool and ethash algorithm. Currently fluctuating between 49-51 MH/s. No idea if that's optimal but that was the best i could come up with after an hour of reading and no previous experience. Will tinker around more later, looks like t-rex has a lot of settings you can set up so that should be interesting.
Basic 3060ti mining clocks:This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Crank the mem clock up a bunch +1000mhz to 8000mhz ish
Reduce the GPU clock -100 or -200 mhz ish
Reduce the power limit to 60 or 70% ish
Turn the fans up a bit if your temps climb upwards past 60C. Or just turn the fans up to where you barely hear them anyways.
Should get you close to 60mh/s
Awesome, thanks for the tips. Dumb question, but do i change those settings with T-rex or would i do that in the NVidia settings somewhere? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Also it's currently showing 68C for temp and i saw it hit 70 earlier, so i think i need to tweak the fan settings sooner rather than later before i fry this thing lol. Good thing i paid for the 4 year warranty.
download MSI Afterburner and dial in those settings. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
stock settings will generate lots of heat, once you dial power limit to 60-70% it will run
my dad uses shakepay and happy with it, but i dont use it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
but yeah my cc charged me fees when i bought some crypto with CB so never again

sweet! you guys know your stuff. Adjusted to -260 GPU/+1200 memory clock using Afterburner and i'm hitting 60-61 MH/s now.
Noticed that afterburner settings get reset back to defaults after you reboot computer. Is there any way to make the settings persistent?
Yes, click the windows button... but make sure you are REALLY happy with them so you don’t death loop from a bad clock... I prefer to just save the profile and set it after rebootingThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
