Default Anybody with Radio Operator License?

I’m considering getting my basic amateur license, having a portable ham radio I use off-roading. (might as well be legal-ish). Wondering what the process is for writing the exam. (Federal gruberment test?)

I have nothing to offer other than knowing a mentally retarded person who was quite big into this and that makes me think the examination standards simply can't be that comprehensive.
Now I've just jinxed you to fail and then have that burden on you forever after! LoL!!

I miss that guy sometimes. "Hey guys - it was my birffday on the weekend. I got Kintendo!" He had a heart o gold, that guy. I hope he's doing alright.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

I wouldn’t expect the basic exam to be much of an accomplishment, but they do have an advanced level and morse code testing for that. You are also allowed to build your own radio with the advanced level, which falls into my hobbies and degree I earned when I was young.

I did my advanced in '88 so it's been a while. I'm pretty techy, lots of electronics experience so I found it pretty easy. Here's some study info. Not sure what the actual process is these days.

CARA does courses if I recall; getting the advanced is a lot more theory and challenging.
