Why ERGO? I want to get ahead of anything I need to, sooner rather than later.
some good potential on the blockchain especially since it can have some close connection with ADA.
easier to mine too and consume less power/heat than RVN coin so good option once ETH becomes unminable
    https://thecryptodrip.com/ergo-deep-dive/

was looking to mine it couple of months ago but it wasnt that easy but now that there;s more pools Im going to give it a try
have a buddy that has been mining it when ERGO crashed down to around 9$

You can even use Yoroi wallet too so just need miner and pool

Its been almost as profitable as ETH for a while now and i believe it will be something big. Its on a tear right now too but so is the difficulty. Its DAG file is also small enough that 4gb cards can mine it bringing cheaper cards to the the table for a better ROI. I mined 60 coins in 3 weeks before difficulty shot up that is now worth over $1200 now. Its more of a speculative play. I am mining some ETH right now to pay my power bill soon and i will go back to ERG after.

Using minerstat. Its pretty nice since it has a profit switch function so I can preload different pools and it'll switch every 10 mins to the most profitable one.

started mining ERG since last night, doing about ~210 MHs with 3070 and 1060, not as profitable as ETH but I want to have a couple of ERG to hold for spec so that I dont get left behind by my buddies.
prefer mining this than RVN as it requires less power and heat.
have a small PC that I can fit 2 GPU, thinking of picking up some 3060 to mine with

So, FB being FB and knowing all I look at online...

Marketplace suddenly is throwing me ads for antminer S9's in the 550-800$ range. Profitability looks like 2.75usd/day today...

Any reason not to consider these?

Noise and Heat. I would Youtube some videos of the S9 to give you an idea how loud even one of these are.

Shopvac loud - got that from the specs but - that drops to a more normal 50-60 in a halfway decently built noise isolation box.

And I really am looking for the heat, that's what got me on this track - get some useful work out of the electricity rather than using electric baseboard heaters.

Antminer S9's are 10k$ new from Bitmain ... something doesn't sound right.

Edit: nvm forget they rolled out a s19's. Forgot a digit.

Bunch of A3's floating around in the 300$ range too... but looks like they're a loosing proposition.

No budget for spending thousands on mining gear, so I'll stick to old deprecated gear for now... But looks like these could be a bit better than buying the GPU's currently available - even if I do need to do some work to make them something I can live with in the apartment.

First, the ad's on facebook are scams if they are offering them that cheap. Going rate for them used (as thats all you can find) is about $1200 which gives payback in over a year. Second, they toss an immense amount of heat and noise while consuming 220v power. This means infrastructure to support them ($$) thus further reducing your return. Third, because they are used, they have been rode hard since they were launched in 2017. You are likely too see a hashboard failure or two which the parts are VERY hard to find right now. And lastly, the ever increasing difficulty of bitcoin mining will have them be profitable (just) today, but will likely in the red in 6 months giving you a return of never. Forget trying to recoup hardware costs on a miner that costs more to operate than it does make.

ASIC mining is more or less for the pro's unless you have a contact where you can get wholesale used last gen miners for cheap. You need big capital for the buying power to even approach manufacturers of the new units. For plebs like us, a new S19 is $20k usd from a reseller.

GPU mining is much safer as you at least have usable hardware when/if things happen like Eth 2.0 or DAG size increases. You can also mine other coins that while may not be AS profitable, will still bring in profit long term.

built a 2nd rig with 2x 3060, got lucky I was able to snag one from MemEx and one from a scalper. Mining Ergo on it. Getting about 110MH/s per card so expecting 1 ERGO coin every 4-5 days

not NH, mining ergo with nanominer and nanopool.
3060 lhr sucks for ethermining, getting 26mhs, more profitable kawpow for rvn but uses more power and hear.
ergo oc settings is similar to ethereum

luck of the draw. was calling everyday all 3 memex stores to see if they had any stocks.
yesterday NE said they had some but by the time I was ready to go they were sold out.
NW said they had some today, snagged one then came back with my wife and got another one, by then she was 2nd to last to get one.

Memex has 3080 ti STRIX in stock now, but they are LHR. I assume that means Eth mining would be majorly neutered, but how about other tokens like Ergo?
