A few more including some of the work I had started on the fuel system. Last pic is the fuel injection pump. These cars had a mechanical fuel injection system.

Rebuilt and re-installed pump. Also included a youtube link of the engine running for the first time in 20 years. It ran very smoothly and had good oil pressure. A bit of the noise you hear in the video is the air compressor for the air suspension, I didn't have any of the hoses hooked up to it.

I was hoping this thread was going to be a year old because Im super impatient and want to see the end result!

Jokes aside, this is a wicked build and Im definitely looking forward to seeing the end product. I heard that you can still get parts from Mercedes for pretty much every car they ever built? Is this true.. are having decent access to parts?

That is pretty much true for these classic collectible models. I can't speak for some of the other models. I get most of my parts from the Mercedes Classic Center in California.

The 190SL should be ready for paint some time this spring. The shop isn't working on it full time as they always have quite a few projects on the go. I'll get caught up with more picture

The original colour is strawberry red. It's faded quite a bit over the years. I will be painting it the original colour.

I have actually never seen a 190SL on the roads here in Calgary. I did see that one from Calgary sold on bringatrailer a few weeks back. Was that yours?
I sold mine ~8 yrs ago. Was the ugly yellow / lemon colour. At the time had 5 other vehicles and didn't have the time / money / space to put into it. Things change and really should have kept it around. Was a family vehicle mechanically sound. Needed paint / interior.

Here are some pictures from when the car first came back from media blasting. Obviously some rust metal repair was expect but the shop was surprised in the overall condition of the car. In the last picture the floors had already been removed and you can see the inside of frame rails. The problem with these old cars is that they left inside of the rails bare metal and can sometimes rust from the inside out.

You can see in a few of these pictures that inspection holes were cut in to the chassis in order to sandblast and epoxy prime all the original bare metal. Also some pics of the replacement metal work starting.

More metal work. The rear trailing arm mounts were replaced as these are one of the most critical pieces where you need solid metal.

While access was easy the underside of the dash and firewall were painted and then the floor pans were installed.

After all the work was done on the floors, all the fenders, nose panel and tail panel were removed and the car was sent out for another round of media blasting. Any minor metal work on the chassis was completed and then painted.

A couple other items that have been completed to date. Gauges sent out for restoration and calibration and horns restored. Also have a new wiring harness.

Great cars, your father wins father of the year IMO for giving you both of these Mercs.

You also have tons of interesting cars in the background of these shots.

I thought that was an RS. The missus and I looked at a 2018 Audi TT RS, it was the runner up to the LC500 we got, in fact I wanted the RS but was overruled. Sick car man, very nice, and IMO one of the best bang/$ out there. Plus all your other cars are cool.

Glad you're all liking the updates. These pictures are of the mechanical bits that were brought home after the shop stripped down the car.

On to some engine tear down. This was the first time I have attempted an engine rebuild. It was a relatively straight forward experience on an old and fairly simple engine.
