Default Cruisin down the street in my six fo

As soon as i saw Boyz n the hood in 92 I knew I needed an impala on hydraulics. Granted that's a 63 vert, the 64 impala is the most sought after car for lowrider enthusiasts, I finally got one.

This one needs everything from engine and tranny to body work and paint, floors and interior....everything. But the frame is good and it's already cut for hydraulics and comes fully plumbed with a one pump setup.

Good news is the body isn't terrible, no real rust, just a bad driver door and passenger fender. Friend of mine bought 2 64s in the last couple months, one that they decided isn't worth rebuilding, so they're gonna part me out all the stuff I need, all of it is in great shape, including a basically new interior.

I dont have much for pics right now, but plans are basically restore it to a driver over the winter and then slowly get it perfect.

And of course I figured I'd go with something familiar to everyone but me, a 5.3 LS. Still looking for someone to respond to any of my inquiries about 4L60E but apparently no one likes to respond.

I'm still unsure of my plans, long lasting reliability is my only plan so far, since this is the last car I will own as a project. My grail.

The garage is still being built, so its gonna be a bit before its home to work on it, but im itching!

Oh hell ya…. I’m guessing they aren’t responding to you on the 4l60 because they want to do you a favour on the reliability end. Go with an 80, you won’t regret it…. I’ve always wanted a hydro car but am way to immature, I’d be bouncing everywhere. 110 in the highway, towing a seadoo, eating drive through, pulled over for doing all of those things in tandem, bouncing

    Yessssssss

4l60 is doable but expensive if you're going to make any decent power. 4l80 much easier to make power with and not worry about. Probably have to at least hammer the tunnel for it to fit but it'll definitely be more reliable than the 4l60.

That 5.3 in that car even paired with the 4l60 will be more than enough pep for that thing. Unless youre doing something crazy for power some very simple bolt ons would make that setup totally fine for that car.

There is a reason why people don't go with the 4l60 and its because its a pile of shit. They are notorious for failing and getting replaced with the 4l80. Another option is you could do a TH400 but then you lose out on the overdrive feature.

There is a substantial cost difference between a 4l60 and a 4l80 though.

Lol i hear you on the 4l60, 4l80 has been on the table too, but basically just trying to get anyone to respond is a problem. I'm not going high horsepower in this car either and it'll be driven only in summer obviously, it won't be bagged.

Ya power isn't my priority. The 5.3 has plenty for what I need.

I need the OD function for sure since I drive highway most of the time, so that's why 60 or 80, doesn't matter to me, i know they're both good for what I need.

Well I personally haven't had "good" luck with them but maybe you could. There is a place in Calgary that goes under the name "S Auto Wreckers" and they mostly deal with GM/Chevy parts and could probably get you a price on a used transmission.

Well the tranny that was with this engine was the 4l60 and is the reason I just have the engine and not the tranny lol I'll see what I can find for an 80, but it seems the people that sell these things used are half retarded.

I can confirm this. Was after a 727 or 518…. Everyone wanted 1500-2000, except for the guy that wanted $300 because it’s a good idea to rebuild a 40+ year old trans anyways. I’ll ask a few people if they have what you need

Its because everyone is doing LS swaps these days and driving prices up. People need to start doing more T56 swaps to bring those prices down

If you're staying stock like power, I'd service and run the 4l60 then. You should definitely add a cam and better suited converter for your set up but I think that should live a long time.

Get some classic LS style valve covers and if its a truck engine you could look into a shaved intake or a car version.

Also not sure if you are aware but if you use the stock ECU its gonna need some massaging.

That's LSs for you. Delmo's makes a dress up kit called DelS3. It's pricey but it looks way better.
