This feels like a showdown will be coming. Are we going to see police arresting churchgoers? Do the churchgoers see this as some kind of peaceful resistance that defends...something?

Nobody is going to look good if this ends with mass arrests or violence.

    [meanwhile, in 2043]...

".... That's right, Grandchildren - it was a crazy time. Then on week-49 of the restrictions, a few people in positions of authority finally got off their cunts and decided that actual consequences should be faced for the previous 48 straight weeks of flagrant violations. It was a very uncertain time, indeed..."

Don't you think God would be pretty understanding if you decided you didn't want to risk exposure by going to church? He sees everything, he knows everything, he created everything. It seems strange to me that he'd force a person to take a chance on a disease every week. It seems like an odd thing to concoct just to test if people can endure it.

On the other hand, if the punishment for missing church is eternal damnation, I suppose maybe covid doesn't seem that bad.

Their pastor, priest, toucher, enabler, whatever you want to call him looks like a pussy.

I don't think you're going to get a David Koresh type of blow up here.
Plus he doesn't own a sick '68 Camaro SS.

I was wondering if this would make it onto Beyond at some point. How to “do church” has become a very polarizing topic amongst Christians since the start of the pandemic. I see only one proper response to it and that is to follow the recommended guidelines and restrictions, and have argued that many times on FB. In fact, I firmly believe that churches should have been self-implementing the same restrictions before the authorities had to force them.

I fully support the arrest of the pastor of Gracelife church.

It seems especially dumb to go beyond the capacity of the church, which, even in non-pandemic times, would've gotten them in trouble. They've effectively given the province a perfectly good out for enforcement.

This is their version of protesting.
When you believe these swiss cheese stories told to you on Sunday, it's easy to be instructed to do whatever it takes for the church.

I don't think it's just Christians.. it's anyone that worships an imaginary sky guy.

Regardless, it's hilariously stupid that they wouldn't just do their thing via Zoom like the rest of the world is.

Listening to the pastor is secondary objective. Primary is gossip and collecting cash donations. Neither can be done over Zoom easily.

To think your thoughts and prayers could somehow travel through limitless space to be received in an unknown location/sight unseen by their intended target is level of heresy I cannot comprehend. I will pray for you my son.

Would be kinda funny to see if a church streams on Twitch or something and gets money donations online haha.

One of the people organizing the rally at the remand center is someone I went to school with as a kid.

My shock level that she is stupid enough to do this kind of thing is a solid zero.

Twitch take a cut I believe. Like 50%. Online payment processors also will take 3-5% depends on donation size. May be Patreon will be the cheapest way to collect?

Zoom isn't free either and I'm not sure it's the right platform for church anyway unless they want the participants to chat with each other as well.

On top of that, I'm sure most church goers are technophobes and rural church goers like this Gracelife Church probably all got shitty internet anyway. Probably impossible to help everyone onto these platforms.

End of the day, the value of Sunday church was never hearing the pastor repeating the same shit from the last 2000 years but the gathering and mingle that happens. It's a great place to build connections and drum up businesses.

Needs to be cash and not something that is easily tracked.

facebook live is used by a church around here, and also for other "performance" type 1-to-many broadcasts.

Zoom has some system for that in the paid app.

The crazy ass government has already created the case law that anyone using the "religion" excuse can do pretty much whatever the fuck they want without repercussions. If people wearing Turbans(which is not even necessarily religious) do not have to adhere to helmet laws, then I don't see why some thumpers would have to adhere to loose public health guidelines about gathering.

The church that I attend has been adhering to the guidelines (actually a bit more). We haven’t had any in person congregational worship since March 2020. Started with pre-recorded services and eventually moved to live streamed on YouTube. Only the IT people and whoever is on stage for the week are allowed in. No concrete plans to reopen since properly sanitizing everything in between various congregations’ worship times, controlling headcount and traffic flow is quite a challenge. And the folks who wanted in person worship the most (the elderly) are the most vulnerable to COVID.
