Default Opinion poll: Hong Kong is just another province of China

Dispute the obvious difference in freedoms and economy in Hong Kong historically under British Rule, it's my opinion that within 5-10 years, activity in Hong Kong will be no different than elsewhere insode China. No additional freedom of finances or politics.

    Agree or disagree?

With the amount of US debt China owns, I'd say China will be more like Hong Kong in a decade.

Too much money, not enough to spend it on. Need things like a space program to spend money on. Maybe some paintings.

Agreed. Unless a war happens and someone takes HK over, it is inevitable.

Agree but not the timeframe. It has become China as of 9 months ago.

Government said they won't go after people who violate security law before July 2020, it's a crock of shit.

BTW, now there is hotline you can call to notify government of any "anti-gov" activities. Way worse than Beyond neg rep.

Well .. Unlike the 80's and 90's ..most western people know where Hong Kong is, and what Hong Kong is ..

Now? Most people here I talk to, (younger people under ~ 25) they don't even know where is Hong Kong, some may know Hong Kong is one of the city in China, some even think Hong Kong is part of Korean ... and non knows that Hong Kong was British colony ... well basically, they don't care.

Some older Folks (~ 50+) just keep asking me if the "Seafood ship" is still there .. I recalled one older lady asked me if I ride boats in Hong Kong as transportation .. *_*

Voted disagree. I think the Party knows it needs a clean shaven face to show the international community - a loss leader of sorts. Limited in my knowledge of HK and the socio-political issues in China though.

    That's to be Shanghai.

HK is to be absorbed into Greater Bay Area with an economy of 1.7T USD
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guangd...eater_Bay_Area

With HK Stock Exchange as Foreign gateway into Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

IE, Shanghai wants to be Dow. Shenzhen+HK wants to be NASDAQ.

It is already China. The Chinese patriotism propaganda has started since mid 2019. You see it on streets, commercials, movies, tv shows, fb ads etc.

I see China flags more and more in rural areas.

I am just waiting for FB/IG/Whatsapp to be banned lol.

Once businesses there cannot access zoom and are afraid to use email, the metamorphosis will be complete.

2014 Transformers Age of Extinction.... I remember the CCP line shoved in the movies about how CCP is going to save the people from the robots in HK. I chuckled. Not so funny now.

Well, email was never secured undless you have end to end encryption and whatever China can't see will be blocked unless key is given. Blackberry did it. Apple did it. I'm sure eventually all tech companies will do it for a slice.

That said, other than wechat, how do you have meetings with your comrades?

a vareity of methods. Ringcentral, zoom, teams, wechat, telephone conference calls. Interestingly, a method that works on Tuesday, may not work on Wednesday. And email is the worst of all. Sending an outlook meeting seems to be mostly unreliable, those get "lost" really often. I need to re-send meeting invites about 75% of the time.

Presumably all business in China is done over a VPN?

That's like reporting zero dollars income on your tax return. Would raise suspicion. I hear a mix of strategies is preferred.

There’re extenuating circumstances you can’t avoid not using VPN while in the mainland tho.

They're only upset that their bribes didn't work. How dare anyone not expect a bribe? That's how everything is done!
