    Default Dead TV need Replacement

Well today seems to be the day the tv I bought over 12 years ago has decided to stop working. Turn it on and after a few minutes it goes *blink*blink* and nothing. It was some cheap Dynex model from Future Shop and not worth fixing or even looking at.

So I have a budget of around 500-600 and looking in the 46-52" range. I want to stick to a good brand this time so either Samsung or LG. 4k doesn't matter as don't have much source material for that and most of what we watch is either 720 or 1080.

I have no cares for a "Smart" TV but I also realize that a lot come from that. I also don't do a lot of gaming with my tv but would like a good refresh rate.

What are people buying these days for these types of requirements?

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

    Get a Trackhawk.

Wait, what is this thread about?

I’d still get a 4k tv just for future proofing. Best move is probably hit Costco regularly and see if you can find an in warehouse deal.

I didn't care about "smart" features, but bought a Roku tv because it was cheap. Turns out I love the Roku stuff. So if there's an option for similar pricing, buy a Roku TV?

Which tv? Because it seems that unless you plan to spend > $1,000 everything is a crap shoot and all the major brands aren't worth buying.

Which leaves HiSense and TCL but TCL seems to be another crap shoot with panel lottery.

Well if you ain't picky, why not just buy the cheapest HiSense from Costco?

Friend has 0 requirement and he is fine with their $450 55" panel. Or treat yourself to with more dimming zones for a $600 55" panel.

IMO Sony/LG/Samsung panel at this price range are not worth it unless you really need to whore out the nameplate in the living room or something.

Probably going to fall into a 55 or 65 TCL.

    4 or 5 series?

The Chinese manufacturers are decent bang for buck. The QC just isn't quite up to snuff like on the Major brands.

I have a 55" Hisense 6109 I bought for $300 on clearance from Costco last Feb when I was in the same boat as you (10yr+ old Toshiba died) - Sure, it has some uneven backlighting and a little DSE, but for 90% of the stuff I throw at it, it's been great.

Honestly, I don't get why people hate on the Roku OS - Outside of the ads (which honestly Samsung's interface is even worse for that) & the fact I have to select my input every time, it's smooth and well laid out.

Yeah 5 series. I don't see ads because I have PiHole installed.
