Yes. It will look better to a potential buyer too. Nice fluffy new carpet.
No carpet looks even better. Who wants to move in and "enjoy" your grime filled house sock?

QFT, i hate carpet, the only reason i am tolerating it in my new place is because it's in the basement and in really good shape.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

Wouldn't the quickest way be rolling up the old carpet, and just let the fluids splatter onto the plywood floor?

When you're ready to roll the carpet back on, remember to spray it down with Oxyclean.
Plain bleach only removes visual stains.

Guys, I don't mean to derail the thread, but I was looking at ways to hang the kids new swing. Just up through a ceiling joist?

A few lag bolts will do just fine.

I feel like you've mentioned you own a saw before... Why not just go with plan b, rip the carpet out, do so not abhorrent laminate flooring? Should be durable enough to stand up to 'art room', as long as the paints aren't laquer, they'll clean-up. And maybe you wont have to redo whenever you do flip?
@Buster - that comes down to the weight it'll need to support and G forces involved. Please provide appropriate pics and stats for a proper engineered solution.

Let's err on the side of caution and say that we should over-engineer this thing for the weight of 3 adults.

    That fits both scenarios.

So yeah, I'll rip out the carpet, you all convinced me. Some $1/ft laminate is probably plenty nice for this. It too can be ripped out when the rest of that floor is redone in a few years.

Is vinyl plank any easier or harder to install than laminate for a scrub like me? Laminate seems cheaper.

Vinyl is super easy to install, it's literally peel and stick, and is cut the same way as drywall, score with a knife and crack, probably more difficult to tear up later though

Vinyl plank locks together the same as laminate flooring and I prefer vinyl over laminate but you need to be careful as some vinyl flooring is really stupid slippery. We have some in our basement and I hate how slippery it is.

i've installed both vinyl plank and vinyl tile, both were peel and stick, non interlocking... maybe there are different kinds.
