    Yea that’s completely BS.

Recently got a brand new card from AHS for my daughter and the letter that I tore the card from explcitely said on it that it is allowed to be laminated.

Sample void card below, with the actual card directly above cropped out for obvious reasons.

Government trying to do things efficiently, why doesn't it feel right?
Because we knew better that this integration will only cost more instead of less, especially in transitional period which could be up to 5 years.

The only way I can see this works is everyone will have to subscribed to provincial ID card, and somehow merge AHS and DL info into it.

DL usually covers people 16-80 and there is probably a small % within that age group doesn't have DL either. So DL won't cover everyone.

So instead getting rid of a piece of paper, scope creep comes in and it becomes changing provincial ID system to incorporate driving status and health data. Then cops probably have a huge wishlist to pile on the scope creep. Then the privacy commissioners will step in and say cops should have no access to our health data info, etc etc.

It all get outsourced to IBM who wine and dine the right minister and win the bid with unrealistic numbers. Then $5M later, you still don't have the system as promised and nobody is happy, see Calgary Transit's whole Schneider Electric fiasco.

    Sounds about right?

Good to know - I just took their word for it as I assumed they knew the rules, but I guess not!

If I laminated mine now though it might destroy what's left of it

I don't even remotely know where my card is... i just pull the digits out of thin air after saying I have it memorized. Never been told to "go bring me your unlaminated card"

I use a photocopy of mine, original is still tucked away in the drawer. I can only think of one time where they hassled me over it.

I took a picture of mine, I put it in a folder called "Nude selfies of myself" so that no one will go into it.

Mine was pretty much destroyed. But we got new cards when the wife and I got married and they force you to combine your health care accounts for some reason. We didn't let the opportunity go to waste and got them laminated right away.

When you get married you don't keep your original health care number. They combine you and your spouse under one account and send you new cards.

I couldn't tell you if this is a new thing in the last 3 years since I got married, or if AHS is just trolling me.

I remember thinking how epically stupid this was when I was informed about it. Just more logistical BS in the very rare event a divorce ever happens.
