What if an un-insured traveler comes here and catches xxxx variant of any illness and is in hospital?

    There will always be risk.

Sounds like we should just ban travel to keep everyone safe.
Or just take the damn shot. Not difficult.

    Sweet. It’s so simple.

So where can I get my shot again?

I think it will be an interesting marketing exercise in the future. How many tourist are you going to lose/gain with/without vaccine passport.

End of the day, we may choose to do nothing in Canada but that doesn't mean it won't be imposed on us when we leave our borders.

And if it's going to be done, I rather see a standard instead of a patchwork of software from different countries. May have to start carrying burner phones.

IATA's version is already launched with 30 airlines and in beta starting this month. I don't think we arguing here and bitch out Trudeau will gain any points other than slow vaccine roll out. Eventually if you object to this, you will have a lot less destinations for your world travels.

By the way this has been polled and 74% of Americans will have no problem with this if the carrot is to resume travel (surprising):
    https://thevacationer.com/covid-19-v...travel-survey/

So if my livelihood is tied to traveling, I already know which side of the market I'm serving.

Yes there will always be risk. But if you can reduce the risk in an extremely easy way (ban foreigners from entering unless they've been vaccinated) then why not? And to be honest, this was a secondary reason. I feel #1 that i listed is actually a better reason, specifically kids. Personally I won't have to worry about me or my wife after June if we can trust Shandro's word on schedule, but until vaccines get approved for kids i'll always be slightly worried about them. So if we can take an easy step that helps limit spread to the unvaccinated then i'm all for it.

I hear you.. But again, if people choose not to be vaccinated by their own belief/research/craziness/etc... Then aren't they on their own as they have chosen to be?

You think Canada isn’t going to let it’s citizens back in the country if they haven’t been vaccinated?

Now you are just spouting gibberish.

The way I read it is that the market is moving in the direction of health passports. EU is already doing this for summer 2021 travels. UK will play along. Side deals are already in place between countries about free travel for vaccinated population.

I think if you don't want to vaccinate, don't. Just like if you don't want to use a smart phone, don't. But don't be surprised if somethings are off the table.

I'm not here to argue that's right or wrong. It just seems the market is moving that way and it's not like us Canadians will have much sway in this in grand scheme of thing. It's just how much impact we will feel if we don't subscribe.

BTW, Biden admin is also looking into this.

Well, much like any rejected entry, the airline will have to bring you back. Which also means the airline will have to do their best to make sure you don't get denied entry at destination, so they will have to check more than a 6 month expiry on passport.

Of course they will, after a 3 day quarantine in an expensive hotel and another 14 days after that at home.

    Or just take the vaccine.

You think that nonsense is going to exist in perpetuity? They can’t even justify it with current vaccine numbers or the numbers from when it came into effect, you think they’d be able to keep it going at 70%+?

It’s pretty sad how people are getting all excited at the possibility to force others to get a vaccine. It’s also pretty funny how it was “no exemptions for masks, stay home if you don’t want to/can’t wear one”, but now exemptions a vaccine passport are fine because without them it would mean people with kids are inconvenienced

Bahrain GP enforces health passport to attend. Either vaccinated, or you've recovered. Otherwise, no entry. They've got an overabundance of vaccines as well, so it's purely to weed out the anti vaxxers. They have so many vaccines they're giving them away to all F1 teams + staff. Choose from every single one available haha.

It's nothing new, I mean California schools won't let kids attend unless they're vaccinated since forever.

Vaccination passports will be some benefit for a period of 2-10 months. I'm not convinced that the benefit outweighs the costs of administering the program, or the unintended negative consequences of it.

And don't be confused. I pro vaccination and I will get mine when I am able.

Vaccination passport will be the TSA of 2020s. It doesn't matter if it works. It just shows people that we keep the unclean from public masses.

I think i'm the only one who mentioned kids in this thread so i assume this is directed at me.

Don't get me wrong, i don't agree with forcing people to get vaccinated. I'm more aligned to what Xtrema said - up to you if you want it, but don't be surprised if you can't enjoy nice things like traveling any more. If a G7 country says you as a Canadian can't come into their country because you haven't been vaccinated then that's completely within their right IMO.

Did this thread start as a discussion the actions the canandian government could take? Did that change, or?
