A nice washer and dryer is so inexpensive these days that it almost makes moving them more of a pain than buying new ones.

Sounds like OP is being compensated well to just pack his bags and leave. Pretty sure a decent washer/dryer set starts at $1500. If the existing set is already 3+ years old, why bother moving them when he's already making out like a bandit on selling. Just make it easy and have a new set delivered to the new place (if the new place needs a washer and dryer/replacement).
OP didn't mention if the sales contract said that appliances were included, which is pretty standard. If not, don't get me wrong, it's a good way to save $1000 by taking them if they're in good shape. But for the assumed $30k+ he's making over and above, it might not be worth his time.

I guess that's the difference. If we're talking an expensive pair then it's probably worth it but for your average pair, it might not be worth moving them.

What's the status on the water pipes in your house?
They copper, you're leaving money on the table compared to the appliances.

I was going to take my washer and dryer with me in my last move, but they offered pretty close to retail if we let them keep them. Fine with me, I didn't want to move them anyways.

If we sold our house, the buyers would probably pay extra for us to take them away, lol. 23 years old, ugly as fuck, but fully functional and so easy to fix. It will become my greasy coveralls washer in the garage eventually.
