I think there was a commitment that "new investments would lead to new jobs" but not a commitment that there would be no layoffs. JK isn't an idiot, he knows he has no control or voice in the conversation, so he's putting on a happy face.

Just need Amazon to get in on the cell phone game and buy out Rogers later.

I was mainly pointing out the cable side & all the telecoms being in bed together anyways. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Shaw actually quite aggressively pursued market share & expansion after turning Wind into Freedom, it was good. I switched to Freedom shortly after when they started pushing their absolute zero + big gig plans. Yes, I had to sign a "contract" & the pricing has leveled out now, but I was paying $60 for 18GB with a brand new LG G8 (had literally been on the market for 3 months only).

I like how Rogers is sponsoring ads pushing positive news of the merger

1800 transition planning professionals.
Luckily for Rogers the feds don't give a shit about Alberta.
Layoff 5,000 people. Hire back 1,800 contractors. Claim '1,800 jobs created'
rogers family buys out shaw family .... life goes on
Yes, Freedom is fucked - I had to jump to Public mobile as I stopped being able to make good quality calls anymore from my phone - thought it was a phone issue so bought another one (was due for one anyway) - nope! Once I switched to PM , all was much better.

But it's probably Layoff 5000 FTE, hire back 6800 of 10 hours /week call center / sales type jobs.
I find Shaw's business division mostly excellent to deal with, they have a lot of knowledgeable, useful people there.
Bell Made a pitch as well,

can anyone TLDR me what's happening with this thing?
It was tentatively rejected unless they can redo the takeover somehow.
Telus wants Freedom but looks like that's not happening either.
They have some date where if the takeover isn't done Rogers has to pay Shaw like $15 million or something.
Latest pitch, Freedom to Quebecor
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/busi...ications%20Inc.
Although Rogers plans to sell Freedom, the Competition Bureau has argued that separating the wireless carrier from Shaw’s cable network would reduce Freedom’s ability to compete because it would not be able to cross-sell or offer bundled services. Shaw has called those concerns “wholly misplaced,” arguing that Freedom’s success has not depended on leveraging Shaw’s cable network.
Further consolidation of a market that was already the highest price (for mobile communications) on earth is hitting road blocks?
Le shock.
I am actually shocked.

... And time to read both shareholder's agreements
Sounds like Rogers outage is going to pour even more cold water in this merger.
Is my phone going to continue to be a brick or what? This shit has already cost me a day of work.
