Default LF recommendations for PTSD therapist

Preferably female, and one that deals with repressed childhood trauma (it's for an adult though).

    PM is fine.

If you find a PTSD therapist that works with clinical MDMA (not street drugs), let me know - its been demonstrated in clinical trial small groups that, in combination with group therapy, this is an 80-90% effective method (than either, alone).

I wish either of these were possible, but the person I'm trying to help has a history of extreme anxiety attacks when doing any kind of mind altering drugs (except alcohol and very low doses of cannabis). So will unlikely be receptive to doing them, let alone in the presence of a stranger.

In fact this anxiety could be an affect of the trauma, and situation around the trauma.

It's a thorny problem, and I agree, not everyone is able to take that first step. Best wishes finding them the help they need.

I don't think any therapist will agree to use drug treatment that is not legal at this point. I have brought up microdosing mushrooms with mine and she was all for it but wouldn't really give any on the record advice.

I have heard that some therapists are open to the idea of doing sessions combined with microdosing (customer supplied). I also know some people don't tell their therapist and microdose before the sessions anyway. I agree no therapist is going to agree to MACRO doses unless their clinic is specifically set up to provide that service.

Can one go to a GP and articulate a reason to get prescribed MDMA? I used to have a GP in the NE who prescribed pretty much anything with a good enough reason.

I’m not sure if she has done EMDR or not, but I know a lot of people who have had ptsd relief with a few sessions. It’s not for everybody but it’s one of the more successful treatments available right now. I know Newvista is good in Calgary.

I am looking forward to psychedelic therapy in the future although. It will be a game changer imo.

I saw some of the acronyms, EMDR and CBT and it brought back what an ex JTF2 member told me about his sessions - it was not fun and he did not look forward to it, but it did help him - somewhat. Directly facing your own demons and processing loose emotions was putting it mildly he said.

I have heard good things about EMDR, I think there's good research to back it up.

Quite a bit of good research to back it up.

Maybe he was getting a different kind of CBT?

Thank you all for the recommendations. They've scheduled a couple of preliminary sessions with a couple of them to see who might fit best. Also one with the most fucking hilarious name of "Serenity Now". I don't think I could take a place seriously with a name like that, but it's not my call.

Worked in Program Evaluation for 6 years for an outpatient trauma therapy clinic for Veterans/Active CAF/RCMP. Can tell you that PTSD has high comorbidity rates with GAD and MDD.

PE, EMDR, and CBT are the bread and butter, but other novel modalities like ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) have been shown to be effective. It's similar to EMDR in theory using bilateral stimulation, and way easier to work through than PE.

I'll PM you the name of a former coworker. She's been doing this for 30+ years and incorporates childhood trauma / genealogy into her work.
