    Default Any car insurance experts?

Had what felt like a fairly minor accident in Febuary. Insurance adjusters been totally MIA, but a total loss adjustor reached out late Wednesday night and said they want to write off my car.

Offering me 12,400 for my 2011 Ralliart Sportback with 110,xxx km on it.

The repair estimate was 6200 from Boyds autobody.

Guess it seems odd to me they would pay out 12.4 vs 6.2. And frankly with car prices the way they are, Id rather have my car back which is overwise in great shape and i know the history on vs rolling the dice on a “new” used car.

Anyone know if I can push them to repair it, or why theyd write it off at such a cost difference?

Wife wants me to buy new, but she is insisting i can get an AWD, 4 door, auto or CSV sporty vehicle for under 45, and im about to jump off a ledge.

Take the payout, buy the wreck from them and get it repaired yourself for $5k.

They use a formula that's more %-based than you're realizing. After that car has a $6k repair done to it, it will be worth less and I think they take that into consideration, as well.

They commonly choose a write-off instead of a slightly cheaper repair estimate because the repair cost is only an estimate and it can go up if there's unseen damage. Now how far below and for what cars is probably based on a formula and on how rare the car is. Repairing rare cas is much more uncertain.

Also shop around and find expensive clean examples to negotiate the pay out. If 12k won’t get you a comparable one, push them on it.

While i appreciate the sentiment, the timing to buy a new or used car is not now. But its probably the least worst option. Now i have to try and find a vehicle i dont hate.

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

Its almost a sure guarantee that the costs will go over the estimate. Remember, they haven't peeled back anything yet to see what the true damage is.
