I know its not the same car.. but I just adore my Cayenne Diesel. For me, the perfect car in that it gives me all of the practicality but still feels 'special". Of course, fairly comfortable, but the steering, braking and suspension and overall driving experience is just so great.

Kind of the reasons why I love my diesel x5.

My ex refused to get gas. Probably why we’re divorced. In your case, since you just had a baby, the ROI is probably more tilted towards you getting gas for life.

Since Race City closed down, I think a lot of people's car passion has declined, at least mine. I was actually drag racing at a track, often, as recently as 5 years ago, when I lived in Houston. Had a C6 Z06 and loved it.

I live in the country now, with a dirty muddy gravel road, so it's impractical to have a sports car right now. I still have 2 classic cars (1970 blazer, 1972 C10), but it's VERY rare that I drive them, due to a) winter and b) being in the goddam country. I'm moving into the city within the next year, so I'm looking forward to driving and enjoying my classic cars more.

As far as enjoying a sports car again, I still dream of a nardo grey Audi RS7 with stage 2 as my DD. The Infinity G50/60 has recently caught my eye since it's TT 3.0 seems to make 450hp pretty easy with bolt ons. It just looks boring as hell.
Covid has made driving a rare thing, so cars in general have taken a back seat for me.

I still want my dream fleet:
- Fox body notchback, turbo V8 6 speed, full suspension, black interior, etc.
- Newer 4 door pick up for sledding and family trips. 3L duramax AT4 would be awesome.
- RS7 with light mods, or Jag F Type R. AWD, DD.
- My current C10 with never-ending improvements.
Big garage with a lift.

Good choice, though I would wait for the new model release, whenever that is. The center console with 100 buttons and analog instrument cluster are a bit dated, in my opinion. Everything else is awesome.

The lack of a proper facility has definitely factored into my car choices over the last while.

I'm currently all about simplicity, easy to maintain, reliable, and good on fuel.
I simply don't care what I drive, nor what people's impressions are of me when I drive it.
I've been rocking a 2007 Honda Fit for almost three years, and its been great.

~$35 to fill, tank lasts me a week
Can fit an insane amount of cargo in it
Simple, and easy to work on

Yes I get beaked about it quite a bit as a "professional" downtown, but I'm not in sales, nor do they pay me a car allowance to buy a nice car (which I likely would pocket anyways lol).
If I head to the field, I rent a truck on my expense account.

Don't get me wrong, if we had a track I'd likely spend a little more on a fun vehicle, but until then I'd rather reach my financial goals in the short term rather than my automotive goals.

I’d be buying used, don’t have the income for the real P car experience. My parents take delivery of a Macan next week so likely when they are too old to drive I’m going to buy that and my dads other two cars off of them to keep them in the family since I know they will be the best of the best and low mileage.

Getting old definitely changed my tastes like most of you guys. I had a taste of a well balanced car (CLS550) a few years back and was shocked at how much I loved the car. At the time, just wasn't ready for something so soft as DD. The RC-F really changed my perception as to what I want, if I can get decent enough handling out of the car, that satisfies my fun needs. I didn't really care about straight line speed anymore, as long as I have enough power to pass people on BC highways (400+hp) haha. The most important was the comforts in the car because I spend a decent amount of hours driving. I can't stand shitty interiors anymore, again thanks to the RC-F upping the bar.

If this WFH thing is long term, I expect to change my list of things I need/want yet again.

Yeah I put a lot more weight into interiors than I used to. The days of driving vehicles like EVO's and STI's with their substandard interiors are way behind me. I don't like the exterior styling of MB vehicles but I'm drawn to them because of their interiors. I just wish the AMG CLA45 wasn't so overpriced as that would be the perfect daily for me.

I am in warranty (Dieselgate warranty), considering deletes down the road but reasonably speaking - haven't felt the need. I think my only concern is that the exhaust note is a bit lame, but I don't want to modify anything until the warranty is over.

The talk about caring more about interiors is the difference for me over the years. I spend a decent amount of time in my vehicle so I care about the looks, feel, and quality of the interior and the stereo. Power and good ride/handling balance is also very important, but not extremes. The older I get (44 now) I also care less about badge and being flashy. I used to no matter what vehicle put aftermarket wheels on "just to be different". Now I don't like drawing any unnecessary attention to myself or my vehicles. Silver or gray in color and looking stock (although I still do window tint). The more incognito the better. That has actually been the best part of going from BMW's to the Genesis. People make comments about me driving a Hyundai or Kia and I actually like that.


On the wife filling up subtopic here, my wife has always said filling up is a blue job and to be honest I won't even let her do it because a huge pet peeve of mine is not resetting trip odometer and l/100km tracker. Silly, but it is what it is.

You might have an option to have the trip odometer automatically reset on fill up - some very cheap cars have that feature so I wouldn't be surprised if your Genesis can do it too. On my old car I had to enable it in the menu but it was there.
