    Default New headphones recommendations?

I do understand its pretty individualized for what people like but what are good brands or ones I should be looking at? Looking to upgrade from my current MX30. Are AMP/DTAC required?

I have so far narrowed it down to
Hifiman Sundara, although I've read about QC and reliability issues $479.99
beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro a little more expensive at $750
    Sennheiser HD 650 $600

    Any other options or recommendations?

    Thanks

Not sure how much price matters but the Bowers & Wilkins P9's are solid.

Is this for music in a quiet room, or for broadcasting, or commuting, or what?

Serious audiophile prices - but to justify the prices your source has to be equally nerded out on - what is yours?

Also depends on the music you tend to listen to - again, nerd details.

I usually listen to Rock or Progressive Trance
Source right now off the PC sound blaster audio card or Fiio M7 nothing to expensive.
Thought I would upgrade the headset first.

I have the HD 6XX which are essentially 650s and like them a lot after now years of use. $220 usd + shipping/duty through massdrop (Used to be available on amazon.ca, doesnt look like it currently)
    https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx
I still use them with this dac/amp which gets the job done

The 6xx is an insane bang for for buck. Needs a decent amp to really shine but doesn't require thousands at all. ZMF makes some great stuff, beautiful too.

Thanks for the link, just added myself to the next preorder for $225 shipped just will have duty/gst now.

Im thinking I'll grab the Schiit or JDS Atom stack for a DAC/AMP which isn't all that bad for $200+ship/duty and they got pretty good reviews.

    Appreciate all the help!

The Schiit Magni and Modi is a great stack for cheap. A Jotenhium with dac would be a lot better imo, but depends on your budget.

My research tells me that latency is a problem. Is this a real issue?

This is only an issue if whatever you're using doesn't compensate for it. Apple TV delays the video to match the audio. You'll only feel the latency when you pause.

I have a pair of Seinheiser RF, there's still a slight delay. I use it for playing guitar with Amplitude on iPad with headphone jack. No delays if I use wired.

when I was an audiophile and big into Head-Fi and Hi-Fi (pre-kids) my favourite headphones were Sennheiser HD580/600, Grado SR-325(I think I model now?) and AKG 701. Though the Grado may be the smallest soundstage, I enjoyed its electrostatic type pace and even if it wasn't the flattest, I truly enjoyed the tone (maybe not the ssssibilience though)

I NEVER loved closed eared headphones but if I were to choose a few, it would be Beyer's DT770 and my Martin Logan Mykros 90

All headphones like anything benefits from quality source, software, amplification and good cabling - however with the recent Chifi stuff out there I know I was quite impressed with the Fiio, not only for the price. This is substantively cheaper than the audio alchemy and musical fidelity stuff I owned.

Source wise I'm so out of the game -- I know Tidal is the Spoitfy for audiophiles and there are a few dedicated appliances, but I would reckon even just an iPhone put though a DAC/Amp combo would provide pretty sufficient quality.
