Have worked both the 4x9.5 and the 3x12 with a make up shift every other Sunday.
The 3x12 sucks. Out of 24 hours you work 12, commute 1/2 hour each way and show up 15 minutes early. Add in your average 8 hour sleep schedule and 45 minutes of meal time (cook and eat anddo dishes) there is 22 hours gone. The remaining 2 hours are split up and there isnreally no time to get shit done.
Never give up the 4x9.5 shift. Being off Fri Sat Sun-loving life!

You seem awfully worked up about a voluntary pilot program.

Individual contract negotiation and collective bargaining over compensation and scheduling is still a thing, this doesn't take away from that.
It's only voluntary until they bring in a french-style cap.

No shit. I also LoL at the "voluntary" concept in countries where there are more General Strikes per year than US mass-shootings.

Shorter work weeks, lots of pat/mat leave, lots of vacation, free healthcare, free education, lots of social security, etc. People seem to stay happier and work harder when the culture isn't to work everyone to the bone for as many hours as possible. They also frown upon working long hours as it is seen as a sign you aren't efficient at your job.

A friend of the family moved to Norway for work and that is how it was described to us anyway, so it was interesting to hear it from Canadian perspective. Taxes and cost of living are both pretty high though. Still sounds pretty good to me. The Scandinavian countries have always seemed to promote a way better work/life balance than most other places. One of the most common death bed regrets from people are that they worked too much which isn't too surprising.

Best job i have every had was a 4x10 work week. Mon-Thur then Tues-Fri.

Second best is 9/80 right now. 9 hours a day, every other friday off. With zero commute vs working DT, my time from home is the same but now i get every other friday off.

agree with the person above to said that the city has a good deal with the 9 days per 2 weeks schedule, and only 70-ish hours in those 9 working days anyway.

I'd love to try a 4x10 work week, I know it would never happen in my industry though

I got in trouble for working more when I was a summer student there.

I got in trouble for too much productivity when I worked in Gov't a lifetime ago too, it was sad and depressing. Go Unions!

Why is this a trial program?
Can't the city of calgary trade their secrets for a 4 day work week with full pay and benefits (I think they call it a compressed work week where you start 1 hr early for more water cooler chat before getting something modestly produced in the day) with them in exchange for bike lane data or something else?

If this was a thing, continue to work 5 - 10's and earn more money? Sounds good.

You and me can job share. You work 5x10 and I'll work 3x10 and we will dominate.

If my schedule was 4/10, my company would get more overtime out of me. Right now I very rarely work on a Saturday leaving me only one day off (unless we're completely slammed), but if they needed me on my Friday, leaving me with two days off, yeah for sure I would be there.

They'd be wrong. Their GDP per capita is still shit.
Lol I love these uneducated posts. HK GDP per capita is higher than Canadas.

Also note, HK People work 10 hours a week for 5-6 days a week is a norm. However, the employment contract says differently. I work 9-7/8pm 5 days a week and my contract states 845am-515. Many of peers need to work on Saturdays during month end or whenever needed.

Thinking back working 5 days a week in Canada, compared to HK, is like a fart in a hurricane. Breeze. You lazy fuckups.
