A fun exercise is to trace the C train route on that map.

I’ve seen much more detailed version, crime is about 10x worse within 4-5 blocks of the train.

Basically arrest everyone on the train while corporate Calgary is WFH everyone is assumed guilty until proven innocent.

Also every bike on there assume stolen. Who rides the train when they "own" a $3k mtn bike?!

It's sad but you probably aren't wrong on some level haha. Countries like Israel that use profiling like that end up with extremely high safety rates at airports and such. Back in the day when I would go visit my friends working loss prevention at Zellers and Chinook Mall, it was shocking how often profiling ended up being accurate.

Calgary crime has always been concentrated along the CTrain line and downtown as long as I can remember. Basically everywhere the vagrants and crack heads can easily get to is where the majority of the crime is going to be. I imagine most cities are the same in that regard.

This map would be a lot more useful if it were crimes / residences, the red get redder, but the ambigous orange that covers Calgary's largest community of Edgemont for example would make it look statistically safer.

There has been a huge trend on social media lately "reporting" stalking or attempting abduction of women downtown or at malls or stores. Have things actually taken a drastic uptick lately in Calgary?

Not specifically with women (although could potentially be), but there's been a lot more vagrants near Crowfoot station since COVID. Some are good crackheads, singing me sweet tunes while I buy a slurpee at 7-11 2 blocks away, some are harassing pedestrians walking around. Around one of the condos, every night they're cracked out on the side sidewalk of the condo. I have secured parking spots in one of the condos, and yea, got window smashed on the E53 by a crackhead who one of the residents busted. Guy just followed and walked in, and started smashing and stealing shit.

I literally have 5 signs on my cars parked there, that says the car is empty, nothing in it, and doors are unlocked. I hope they can read haha.

I thought Panorama Hills got Edgemont beat as largest community (Confirmed: 25k vs 16k).

Hamptons = 85
Panorama Hills = 157

The security of that condo sux (I assume behind 7-11). My buddy's ancient Accord 6-6 was written off after they tear the column apart probably try to start it or something.

You guys might be making a spurious correlation here in implying that the c-train is the cause although it's obviously related. I think statistically it's more related to the fact that c-train presumably runs along close to where there's the most population and business density. The c-train and crime are obviously related but I think it's more of a mediating variable (Correlation is not causation). I know there's a lot of research in this area but this is not my specialty.
