Everyone was running wide. Watch the in cars if you have access to it. Even Max was outside track limits almost every lap. Ham just went a foot or 2 wider.

So you could argue Max only catch up on the last stint by breaching track limits to the detriment of Mercedes...

Haha for sure! I'm on it as well just haven't had time to look it over but it seemed that HAM was def exploring the track a bit more, likely to lessen the wear on his old tires.

Doesnt explain his adventure after locking up at turn 10 with a few laps left, only to just drive as if nothing happened. But I guess that's racing, gotta just blame the circuit designs. But HAM was surely not error free in his defence.

Ham is never error free. His differentiator is that he’s great at calculating risks so that mistakes are a lot less punishing than average. That turn 10 lockup only cost him 1/2 second.

Watch the dual in cars after max let’s ham past again. Ham was on the knife edge with almost zero oversteer to the end. Max really killed the tires, or at least overheated them with the amount of sliding. Really fun watch.

MotoGP has an automated system now. You breach track limits during practice/qualifying and it automatically wipes the time...do it during the race and it automatically generates a track limits warning to the riders. I'd imagine it could be reviewed and cancelled out in instances where multiple bikes were attempting to occupy the same piece of track at the same time.
