Default MalibuStacy is moving... to NYC?!?

As it says, my fiancé and I are moving to NYC in the end of June! We are moving to pursue her passion for research animal medicine. I will initially be on a TD visa as her spouse, however I intend to apply to get a visa allowing me to work as a teacher in Manhattan. Big changes will be coming, such as selling our cars (anyone want a 2 dr Wrangler or a Volvo C30?), downsizing (probably only moving with our clothes and pets), and lastly figuring out how to ship or stuff we are planning to keep. Here is where I need Beyonds help; we are planning on shipping some of our stuff (kitchen pots/pans, backcountry gear, other miscellaneous household items), does anyone have any experience shipping personal items to the states? What is the cheapest and most reliable option?

Also if you want to know more about our move, ask away!

Moving that far? I would sell everything that you can't check as luggage and re-establish a household once you get settled. All of your stuff is replaceable except personal items that mean something to you or your SO.
Tell me more about the C30. My winter beater Mk5 needs trans solenoids and is being eaten by the tinworm.

^ yea what he said. Have a moving out sale but do the bigger ticket items separately. Obviously sell your -30c parkas if you have any, lol.

With a change that big, its like moving into a different planet.

Excited for my eldest and his fiancé, such a huge move. We'll be making room to store stuff as need be. Gonna be weird not having him near.
    Will fuck off, again.

Do you know where in NYC you’re planning to move, or too early for that?

I lived in NYC (Brooklyn) for 1 year of my life during my training.

I'd sell everything you possibly can as someone posted above. Keep all your winter clothes. That damp cold goes through to the bone. I actually found myself wearing alot more layers than I ever would in Calgary.

Can't wait to go back at sometime. I was really lucky in the sense that I explored the city at my own pace on weekends. You will love some things and hate others (that stench that comes from piles of garbage on the corners when it is +35c outside is something I still remember). Keep us posted.

I know nothing about NYC but this advice makes sense if you're downsizing... you gotta get creative with everything being multi-purpose and stackable
