Just because you get upset at things like 'airlines don't operate in a free market so it isn't in the country's best economic interest to be the first to drop protectionism because of a pandemic', or 'increased reliance of private health services doesn't result in a reduction public healthcare spending', or 'allowing construction of bike lanes provides a means for more efficient spending on transportation infrastructure' doesn't mean it's a suggestion that the government is a solution to every problem.
I’d love to see an example where you have advocated for anything but more government as a solution to any problem.
None come to mind.
I’m pretty sure it would break you to make such a suggestion. To even insinuate that your blind faith in government intervention could ever lead to anything but the best result.
Regardless of whatever brand of mental gymnastics you are using to justify shitty government programs this week.

It's unfortunate that Kert's views are basically down-the-middle-of-the-fairway Canadian views. Most Canadians feel the way that he does about a nanny state. It's the main reason Canada is rather pathetic, but I don't really expect to change it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
This thread is a prime example of how Canadians think they need government because government because they need government because government…This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
As long as everything is obfuscated by successive bad government policy the merry go round keeps turning, somehow.
Really, we should just blame Harper or something.

#1 cost for an airline: The planes.
#2 cost for an airline: The planes.
#3 cost for an airline: The planes.
#4 cost for an airline: The planes.
#5 cost for an airline: The planes.
#6 cost for an airline: The planes.
Can't cover the cost of the planes? You're fucked.
Everything else is manageable. But every time you purchase a plane, you're basically hoping to jebus that it's going to be utilized enough for the next 25 years. yippee.
Solution for the arena funding issue? No government money to it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Want to start up a private school? Government should have no involvement and certainly no funding.
Multi-billion dollar roads project with no business case or user projections? Keep hands out of taxpayer pocket, why should I pay for roads somebody else will use?!
Zoning? Why should your desire to live in a single-detached affect a land-owner's right to build a fourplex next door?
Parking minimums. FUUUUUUCK that.
Business permit access and commercial space minimums are an absolute mess
The government shouldn't be creating PR firms for private companies that already have lobbyists and their own organizations to deal with PR.
To name a few.
Where I feel the government is a solution, is for things where private money is unwilling to take risk because returns are too low, but the results are beneficial to society (helping covert to cleaner fuel sources, upgrading utilities, enforcing safety standards), or entry barriers remain high enough to likely result in oligopolies, things where equitable access and quality is the most important factor for society than the direct business case for them, etc.
You also mistake explaining the 'why' of things as an endorsement of it, which is weird.
Imagine if an airline had to pay actual market price for these planes. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
We never thought of it like that. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Because the fixed costs are so high, basically you'd simply consider the last few passengers on each flight as operating profit. On a typical flight only the last 7-8 passengers made the company money. You'd know if you were losing money on a flight if, say, it was only booked 126 passengers.
Most everything was broken down as "passenger miles", that way you could account for fuel usage properly.

You want government to pay for and protect the shit that’s important to you, but are happy being hypocritical when it comes to shit you don’t support.
Standard self interested stance as everyone else.

The stuff I support is cheaper, so my self interested stance is better. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Just think how much cheaper the stuff would be exposed to market pricing rather than government interventionist inflationary measures. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
So the real capitalists, are still cheaper yet, which by your definition is better-er.
