I have seen some homes where a smaller secondary tank that you can wall mount is put in where the shower/kitchen is too far from the got water tank. Acts kind of like a booster. Takes the water from the hot water line and heats it up as needed. Not a terrible solution and can be put under the stairs or in a closet.

I had the same unit and it was definitely slower to heat, not a deal breaker though. I think it was pretty efficient? Didn’t really notice an effect on my bill.
Unless your tank is pre-2000, it probably won't change your bill a lot. Tank code was changed then and they're way more insulative now.

    Water
    Temperature
    Time to Produce
    a Serious Burn
    Hot 120°F (49°C) More than 5 minutes
    125°F (52°C) 1½ to 2 minutes
    A 130°F (54°C) About 30 seconds
    135°F (57°C) About 10 seconds
    B 140°F (60°C) Less than 5 seconds
    145°F (63°C) Less than 3 seconds
    C 150°F (66°C) About 1½ seconds
    Very Hot 160°F (68°C) About 1 second

Hmm I think we could handle somewhere between B and C and then some education on the kids side of things.

I have never flushed my tank. We get this bang sound now when the tank is heating up and google tells me that its air bubbles escaping sediment in the tank.

    Try flushing the tank.

I honestly wouldn't put any stock into the alphabetical designations on the dial of your tank's control unit. At least in my anecdotal experience, a 0.5mm turn can make a 5-10˚F difference. Use a thermapen or other thermometer to measure the actual output temperature at a fixture.

I'd worry more about the members of your household who might be into their seventies or older. At that age you might not feel the damage before a serious burn has been inflicted.

    I have country club skin.

Unlike my wife, who likes the water somewhere resembling the seventh circle of hell.

Flushing the tank and doing the anode rod are both extremely easy to do.

Set aside a couple of hours on the weekend and just do it.

After we bought our house last year the first thing I did was those two things and it was crazy how much sediment was in the bottom of the tank. There is still some in there as getting it all out was going to be more time than I wanted to spend.

Anode rod is simply a big socket, unscrewing and replacing.

Yep, that's the exact reason I went with a different brand when replacing our Bradford. Stupid design.

OP: If you have a reasonably-sized tank and it seems to get cold too quickly, check the dip tube - sometimes they develop holes so the water starts being drawn from the top (where the cold water us coming in) instead of at the bottom where the hot water is. It can make a remarkable difference in how long you get hot water for.

Yeah this is the same as mine.

Can you set the temp on a tankless hot water system as well?

Yeah I have a digital display, 50C is a safe max, you can override to 56C.

Flushed my tank this morning, but does anyone have any tips for removing the anode rod nut, I have a 1 1/4" socket on it and it is not budging at all. I dont know if i need to spray some sort of loosener or something on it to help first. I am using my 2 foot torque wrench for more leverage and it still doesnt budge.

    Don't use a torque wrench.

Alright - also the socket I have for the hot water is the one that looks like the top of the bolt. Ive heard that its better to go with the ones with the multiple grooves? anyone agree.

More leverage - have any pipe laying around that you can put over a breaker bar? Try that as step 1, step 2 get that Torque Wrench re-calibrated
