    Default Garage Insulation

Anyone have recommendations for a spray foam installer? Should I even be considering spray foam insulation for a garage?
Alternative would be just to DIY install R12 batt insulation. Haven't decided if I should do blow-in for the ceiling or just put batts down as well.

Not that I think it would make a difference for what insulation to use, but I think I'll be drywalling the inside....OSB prices are insane right now.

Ceiling, are you going to store anything in the attic?

Spray foam is way way more money, but vastly superior. You could probably just do a big blow job for the ceiling, though.
Try Ener-Spray. And never call Midgaard ever for anything. Ever.

Spray foaming a garage is excessive IMO.

I suspect when he sees the quote, a similar conclusion will be reached.

My dad spray foamed his detached garage. Downside is it's a little too tight and moisture that comes off the cars in the winter stays in there if the windows are closed. He heats the garage, but must keep a window cracked to control humidity.

RE: Wall finishing, he sheeted all his interior walls in plywood then painted white. Something to consider as it makes it very easy to mount any shelving, racks, etc etc. No need to find studs unless it's for something really heavy like a tire rack.

Also don't skimp on painting white.
Massive lighting differences. I was shocked.

Didn't get storage trusses, so no.

Thanks, wasn't sure what to even expect, I'll give Ener-Spray a call just for shits and giggles anyways.

Plan was to go with OSB, but if I did my math right it's gonna cost me like $2700 for sheeting alone, never mind the insulation.

I think it was around $3.5-4/sq-ft when I did it at ~R20-24.
Back then, I got Auntie Rachel to pay for about 30% of it, so that was cool.

I got quoted $22000 to get my basement spray foamed. So probably $6k for a garage.

Sounds like a ballin option for a garage.

It's ceiling, not roof. Your attic/roof cavity is intended to be outside temp.
It's going to be roughly $2,600.
    26x27x$3.75

No, I mean roof. You can spray closed cell directly on the underside sheathing and not have an air gap. The closed cell is insulation and vapor barrier in one. I've seen it done a few times and seems to be a thing on the interweb. .... might make re sheeting the roof in 60 years expensive though. $2600....sold. also, I'm not a builder, so I'm open to other opinions about this

That's what I wanted to do in my old garage and I was told a very good reason why this shouldnt be done but I embarrassingly can't recall enough from my terrible HVAC course to recall why.
I'm too hot and lazy to look it up.

Anyway, you can Marth your roof pitch surface area and multiply by $3.75/sq-ft for a reasonably accurate estimate.
It's too expensive. It doesn't make sense to do the roof or ceiling and not the walls. It's too expensive.
    It's too expensive.
    But it's fucking awesome.

Most common reason to insulate at the ceiling is cost of the larger space if you were wanting to heat it.

It is also cheaper and easier to use blown insulation for ceiling.

This apply for scissor trusses? Not a ton of room for blown in, especially towards the walls.

I haven't done it myself personally but do recall looking into it like 10 years ago for the garage, was insane back then when compared to bat, so bat is what I did. For my new house build I am planning on spraying the whole thing, regardless of how much it costs, and after some research Beyond Foam is who I have chosen to be a potential company to do it. We will see when the time comes to actually do it..

Nope, saw a few /sqft numbers that were posted and did the same Marth as ThePenIsMightier and came to the conclusion that I'm not beyond baller enough for sprayfoam.
I've actually got an order for drywall, R12(walls) and R40(ceiling) coming on Friday.
