hacksaw/sawzall the handle off and you should get enough access to the internal mechanicals to force it to turn with tools - could even use a propane torch to soften the metal but at risk to the door and fumes in the area.

It was whatever was cheapest for a keyed lever handle. It's not any special quality, although I think at this price point, interior and exterior handles are not different.
