I'm not a Phoenix fan - there are places you can be comfortable for 12 months of the year. Phoenix isn't one of them.
Phoenix is a great hedge/compliment to Calgary.

If Calgary isn’t part of the consideration, I tend to agree with you.

A big thing I am interested in, it would sure be novel to live somewhere with a healthy job market. If I can get a healthy job market with lower taxes and better climate I have a hard time seeing why I would keep living here.

    Hence my choice of Colorado.

The biggest problem with Calgary winters is they are too long.

Everywhere with a nice climate either has no job market, or the cost of living is ridiculous.

Are you guys forgetting about Texas? The climate isn't perfect, but it's way better than here (and better than phoenix, which for some reason is a major theme in this thread. It's a shithole in the desert, and Scottsdale is a retirement community in the desert).

They're not any better in Denver.

You have to go further south or east if you want four seasons where each takes up three months.

There's a reason why people move to Vancouver or Ontario.

Calgarians on Beyond probably should know the local traffic speeds before they make the jump.

Yes, those are actual Taxi cab speeds in New York City pre covid.

As some who works outdoors for 50% of job, I would not agree with Texas being a "better" climate than here. It's just the opposite of us.

Pretty sure I listed Austin as one of my top picks.

Houston is too hot IMO. 38-40 and 100% humidity is much worse than 40 and low humidity in Phoenix. Austin or Dallas i hear are much more tolerable but never been.

Parts of Texas are so humid that your glasses will fog up walking around outside.

Much of my family lives in Scottsdale in AZ, I really like it there. We had a condo in Palm Springs we inherited but sold it because California. Austin is a great city, in Texas a lot of conservative people think it's this major leftist town, and there is a bit of that vibe, but to me when I stayed there a few times it was a fantastic city, with great people overall.

When I worked for Sig Sauer I spent quite a bit of time in Epping New Hampshire, I really liked it there too, it's far enough North of Boston to not have much "Boston" around.

I'd love to pull the pin and move to either AZ or TX, but it's probably not going to happen for us in the short term.

Is it the winter is too long or that we have a really crappy spring? I don't mind our winter but the ugly springs make me want to move.

If April and December were more useful in Calgary, then I would be happier.

Uhg, double quoting But I just wanted to say I 100% agree. The older I get, the less I care for it. You can travel for any of the winter recreations, unless you are a hardcore snowboard/ski/sled person, it doesn't make sense to be here.
Winter recreations are just a way to make the best of a bad situation. I prefer just not being in a bad situation to begin with. Although I figure if I ever get myself out of here, I'll likely return for a week in the winter just so I don't start taking for granted how good I have it.
