Default best and worst places to live in the US

    Appealing places to live:

(I'm going to skip NY and some other major centres, just to be interesting. And fuck the Bay area, no thanks.)

    1. Denver/somewhere in Colorado
    2. NC or SC, Raleigh or Charleston
    3. Austin
    4. I've heard Columbus is nice, of all places.
    5. Connecticut?

    Not thanks:

    1. Miami
    2. Baltimore area
    3. Most places in California right now
    4. Deep south anywhere (been there done that)
    5. Portland.

I like Phoenix but I wouldn’t live there in the summer.

I think your top 5 is very close to mine. Austin and Denver being at the top.

My wife wants to move to Manhattan, I think she watches too much tv.

I don’t know enough about it, and it certainly would come with some sacrifices. But Hawaii sure seems nice for a more rural lifestyle (not Honolulu lol, probably not Maui).

Carolinas are the black sheep picks for sure. Probably best most cost effective opportunities.

    New Hampshire.

California has lots of nice areas. Orange County other than Anaheim is really nice. My parents live in Riverside County in Corona. It’s quite nice there.

SF is god fucking awful but San Jose is really really nice. Lots of Asians there. The entire SJ-SF corridor has cities.

Denver feels very much like Calgary imo, not surprised that a lot of people from here would choose Denver

If you move to Denver you are giving up lots of horsepower. There has to be a non-hurricane non-shithole town in Florida worth living in.

I lived in Fort Collins, CO for 4 years. Loved every minute of it but it’s very much a college town.

If I were to go back to USA I’d probably live in Steamboat springs or mammoth lakes.

Elon is never wrong; Cali is dead, Austin is best

Still won’t complain if you needed me to house sit your Oceanside mansion in La Jolla or Malibu though

I hear Martha’s Vineyard is nice too

I think I’d get bored of the lack of seasons in Texas, somewhere in Colorado seems like the best bet.

I can't understand the love for Denver... Might as well just stay in Calgary and there are so many more places with more to offer!

On your list I would do Austin for sure. The wife has tons of family down that way and we have been multiple times and really enjoy it. I was also surprised by how much I enjoyed Phoenix and that would be a consideration too for me. I have never been to the Corlina but that has always interested me having met lots of people from there and talked to those who have visited and seems to be a lot of great things said about it.

Calgary has the unfortunate problem of being in Canada.

Denver is like Calgary except with a much larger economy, better flight options, and NFL, MLB and NBA teams. If you mostly like Calgary but wish it was "more" then Denver is a great option. If you hate everything about Calgary, well yeah, Denver isn't going to be different enough.

Something beachside would be nice, I've always liked the beach towns near San Diego, but never looked that deep into moving there. Never looked that deep into moving anywhere, I actually like Calgary, and if I get my wish, I'll never live far from here.

    It's pretty expensive.

I find SD is like Calgary except with way nicer weather and a way better economy.

Sorta astounding how Canada really only has one metro area that you could say has a diversified economy.

You fool! Who needs the greenback when you can spin out a double double and vanilla dip in your basement with a GTX 3060. Every day!
