    Not really.

    Jax maybe
Been to Jax many times, not a fan. It's like Windsor Ont., but more redneck.

There are a lot of places I would love to spend a weekend at which I have NO intention of living in.
This is why I don't love JAX. My first visit was a week, and was fun. My next two visits were 4 weeks each, and I got to know the place.

I just want to live somewhere warm, and not deal with shitty snow 8 months of the year but my wife says no moving to the US as it’s too fucked up there, hard to disagree yet Canada is going into the shitter too

The kinds of places in the states that are fucked up, are exactly the same kind of places no one would reasonably consider living in Canada.

“The US is fucked up” is a fairly uneducated stance.

Every country has its shitholes, just don’t live there. Hence the point of this thread.

That's most of the USA for me honestly. Unlike most of you, I actually don't want to move. But I love visiting the US.

Having grown up in the Inwood area of Manhattan and lived in Calgary for 40 years, I don't see myself living in the US again. That said it would be nice to get away from winter for a few months.

Still think San Diego is the best spot climate wise in US.

Temps never breaks over 30c or under 10c. Sunny 200 days of the year and doesn't have depressing rain of pacific NW.

Far enough from San Andrea fault so earthquake isn't a big of a deal and if you want to do shit, LA is just 2hrs away.

Maui/Hawaii is nice for a couple weeks, I don't think I can live there. Same with the gulf coast.

Out of the 3, only Healthcare is a legit budget concern. The rest are not.

It amazes me how much violence is actually down there. We really only get glimpses up here, but every fucking morning local news there's violence and murder reports from overnight down there. It really shocked me.

I don't think on the whole that the USA is that much better or worse than Canada, but it is a different selection of issues. Even if you find a "good" town/neighborhood, you still have broader social issues that are nationwide. Those may rank higher or lower on your personal priority list, but they do exist and they will impact your life down there.

Impact like... how high is the gate to your community??

That is a strange concept though, you really don’t see the same extent of gated and secured (armed security) communities anywhere else in the 1st world as you do in America

One of the weirdest things I’ve seen was eating at in n out somewhere in LA... family rolls up in a rolls Royce with two SUVs with security in them to get a burger

I personally am really uncomfortable with how highly visible the social and economic divisions are in the USA. I don't ever want to live in a gated community, or somewhere that gated communities are seen as "neccessary."
I grew up in a house where we didn't even lock the house when we went out, and these days, I'm comfortable letting my kids play unsupervised in the neighborhood. I wouldn't trade that for the other "advantages".

I also have no issue with Calgary other than the long winter. And the top 3 retirement spot on my list has Spanish as primary or secondary language.

If you want to compare crime incidents per 100k... Canada is 5800. Calgary is 6400. San Diego is 2244. So don't let the media influence your view as USA is all bad.

Is that accurate at all though?
That's reported crimes? or investigated crimes? or there's a lack of reported crimes because there's no investigation anyways.

In Houston it seems they don't just pull guns anymore, they just start shooting. I think reports indicate an average of 5 shooting a day lately.

Road rage shootings are up to the point where the mayor basically said in a press conference "Assume everyone has a gun".

My friend's dad was in Houston in the 80s, I guess he pissed someone off because someone shot at his rental car.

The other time I was pulled a gun on was in Buffalo, Wyoming by a sheriff and I’m not even black! Respect the authority even if it’s not right there!
