My Dad has a place in Scottsdale that I have visited a few times. I really like it down there. I wouldn't want to be there in the summer, but for Oct-April it's really nice.

My friend's dad was in Houston in the 80s, I guess he pissed someone off because someone shot at his rental car.
Problem is you don't know what constitutes 'pissing someone off' these days.

Still no reports on why this happened.

Is that accurate at all though?
That's reported crimes? or investigated crimes? or there's a lack of reported crimes because there's no investigation anyways.

With Starlink, any rural place in North America is more appealing now. I could even see myself doing mountain.

My understanding of the us is that property crimes are essentially flat with Canada, there is however far more violent crime.

BUT that violent crime is heavily biased toward... certain segments of the population.

Too much tonnage. As a side hobby like chasing down pokemon - what you really want is a nice pink quartz deposit, and just go for gold pickers.

Only 3K adult for SD county according to your link. So more pedos in SD confirmed?

Look, if you look hard enough, you will probably find a stat of one being better than the other. All I'm saying it's close.

All I'm saying is, it's not cold, it's not hot, it's not humid most of the time. Seem relatively peaceful around La Jolla and many other areas. And if you are looking for trouble, just 2hr drive north or south.

I loved my time living in South Carolina. (Rock Hill) The commute into Charlotte wasn't too bad. Housing, food...booze, all really cheap. Great weather. Under 3 hours to the beach or Smokey Mountains for hiking.

I personally am really uncomfortable with how highly visible the social and economic divisions are in the USA. I don't ever want to live in a gated community, or somewhere that gated communities are seen as "neccessary."
I grew up in a house where we didn't even lock the house when we went out, and these days, I'm comfortable letting my kids play unsupervised in the neighborhood. I wouldn't trade that for the other "advantages".
Dunno what to tell you, it's also a problem here and while I would not WANT to live in a gated community, I could see myself ending up in one. Our riff-raff is just as bad as their riff-raff IMO, we just keep it to a slow burn because it is proven colder communities see less crime. Nobody doing wild shit when it is -30*C for two weeks.

Most acreages nowadays have gates, and with good reason, rural crime is bonkers. Between Edmonton, Calgary, and Red Deer, I don't know a single community where I wouldn't lock the doors.

I think Canadian's suffer from thinking we are better than the US in a lot of ways. I don't believe that to be the case. Our property crime stats outstrip the USA on average, while violent crime is higher in the USA. The USA is substantially richer than us as well, to the tune of almost $20k usd per person in GDP, and from what I can tell, for the most part, it is very easy to live somewhere that would be 25%-50% lower of a cost of living. So basically, our fat lazy slobs get more government handouts, so they don't look like fat lazy slobs. Yay us?

You're kidding yourself if you think acreages have gates for security. 99/100 of acreages with gates don't have fences.
