The other way to do it is to just buy your own wilderness land and camp there. Still many of the same drawbacks as regular camping in terms of dirt and weather, but at least you can ensure privacy as long as you buy a big enough parcel. I was out visiting a private 1300 acre retreat in the Columbia Valley over the weekend. It's nice, I like. Gotta be comfortably past #sevenpointtew to play in that league though.

I know some people who have done just that. Quarter or 2 of heavily wooded land in southern AB.

Bonus points it’s private land which makes hunting far more enjoyable.

It's a great solution. Although 2 quarters is hardly enough. I suggest 6 or 7.

Wilderness village lets poor people hang out at the petting zoo. Source: I've been to that petting zoo.

I think @killramos is looking for something a little more private. I suggest the yellowstone club. https://yellowstoneclub.com/
    Now that's camping, hey boys!
Isn't this what the Duttons were fighting against?

The one really, really nice thing about having a trailer is that only you use it. You're not sharing cum stains as in a hotel.

That's why the tv resets back to the hotel info channel.
They don't want anyone to know the dirty little secret.

Funny seeing the NDP running opposition ads against this, as if they wouldn't have implemented a 200 dollar fee.

If it were up to the NDP, everybody entering K-country would have a park escort with them.

Exactly. They’re just ticked they didn’t come up with it while they had the chance.

So, what are the chances the crowds in K-country die down once things open up in Calgary and surrounding areas? Will having more to do in the city mean fewer users in Kananaskis? Maybe that combined with the fee will help.

Not surprised. Can’t find where to buy a pass.

Hard to say how much the fee will help deter people, but back before covid, K-country was super busy with Calgary people even when they had closer options.

Guessing this fee isn't large enough to really reduce traffic by much. Just based on the conversations here, it seems like everyone is still planning to go, just hoping someone else will stay away. Then if it doesn't reduce crowds, will they keep jacking the price until it does? @Buster would support that kind of "price discovery" process, but I think the government and public at large will not.

I just hope it keeps some of the low quality people out.

A fee that is 2% of the annual cost of owning a trailer is not likely to keep any of them out. Make the fee $1000 and you might have a hope on people who are obviously so bad at budgeting and finance decisions. #trailerlyfe

You'd be shocked how many of my acquaintances with trailers/ quads/ lifted diesel bros were bitching and complaining how the Kananaskis fee is going to hamper their hobby and therefore their mental health...

    Not the brightest bunch.

There is a Facebook group I'm a part of and the amount of complaining when sites went up by $2 a night was amazing. Especially coming from people with $60k fifth wheels and $80k trucks to tow them

It's not people with trailers that are the main problem.

Well, the goal is to create a barrier to access, so let's see!
