Up smith dorrien today. Most parking spots are full. Don't think it's slowed much traffic.
Also most people seem to be veteran outdoors people.

Isn't week day stuff usually locals and actual mountain people? I know my brother and his wife in Canmore never climb on weekends.

    Haha.
Definitely not the biggest dork up there during the week. Can't even tell you what an anticline is exactly...
I thought geologist had no social skills... Then these older, backwoods people upped the ante.

So they claim the funds went to hiring 20 new Conservation Officers AND 32 seasonal staff. If that's true, that seems better than expected.

Must be UCP propoganda fake news.

I heard Jason kenney spent all the money on his summer vacation.

It kept the rabble away. Thank god. Might try to do a hike this Friday on the south end of 40 before they close it up for the season.

Even with the pass I was surprised with how busy things got by mid morning, more enforcement!

I found plenty of very quiet trails. Also fairly certain I could've gotten laid by a more than few ladies at Galatea.

Did they say how much fine revenue was? Probably zero this year. If they are going to have the pass, they should also enforce it tightly. A couple parkplus cars should be able to pay for themselves and lots more on top.

Every time I was in a parking lot I saw them checking license plates. Every freaking time.

The 20 conservation officers are province wide from what i've heard. Bit of a bait and switch

And bs it kept the rabble away: https://www.reddit.com/r/Calgary/com...away_from_the/

Personally, they need to stop putting money into things like CNC and get into some actual trail development and upkeep. Pocaterra area has been absolutely brutalized with people on and off trail (and cant entirely blame them as there is no formal trail)

You know Kananaskis is more than Bragg Creek right?

However, I did Prairie Creek Trail a couple of weeks ago, almost zero people on it. Because people think parking lot => Elbow Falls is a hike.

Pocaterra has larches! Larches!! LARCHES!! Meanwhile Ptarmigan Cirque has 90% fewer people on it.

Yes. im quite aware. There is no lack of people on every trail currently, and the defacto ones are getting absolutely abused, lack of proper trail development (like actually rerouting water off the surface) is insane. Not sure why paying a dozen people to shoe people away from parking lots for them to just park in the ditch is a good use of our money

I've been hiking like crazy all around Kananaskis and Banff, it hasn't been that bad.

Even Heart Creek Trail wasn't that bad.

I wasn't really expecting volume to go down, it's the quality of people that has been raised.
