golf for sure should be free. why should only rich people be able to golf.

Also, we should be giving away luxury cars as well.

Who charges the people? Who pays those people's salaries?

If the fee doesn't actually result in better enforcement then it's a waste of cash but it takes money for such enforcement.
If the costs actually went to increased enforcement, I'd be on board. But I know they won't and this is all just a money grab.

    Why do you say that?

They plan on hiring 20 new Conservation Officers, 50 new park employees, etc etc etc.

You sound like everyone else bitching on facebook.

And that's fine and I am bitching. They can plan all they want but let's see it come into action. Dude I know people who work for the Parks, it's a fucking shitshow all the time when it comes to finances. I have zero faith they will hire that many people. They can't even maintain the staff numbers they have now, nevermind getting all this extra money and being like "oh shit we should hire some people back and then even more!"

Do you believe all the news releases the government provides? Got another one for you, covid is being handled perfectly.

    I am well aware.

Worst case, nothing is done and this fee deters a large subset of people from travelling to Kananaskis and reduces the crowding.

Also a win in my books.

Currently this is an "Outraged to be outraged!! Someone think of the children" situation playing out.
These are the same people with massive diesel vehicles, toy haulers, toys etc etc etc bitching about a $90 fee.
If $90/ year is going to break the bank on you, well i'm sorry to say you have made terrible financial decisions.

    F*ck off already.

Worst case, A bunch of people pay for the services they are actually using. Best case services improve from that funding.

The amount of bitching I hear over this is encouraging. It makes me think that the gov't has done the right thing.

As a man who's wife is a teacher, the curriculum bitching amuses me.
She likes it, her peers do not.

I'd be happy paying 180$ a year if it keeps people out of K-Country. I'm all for making the place less busy and keeping folks out of there.

Best case: they hire more people into Parks that they've needed for the last decade at least. Fines are handed out more often with more COs, trash decreases drastically and trail maintenance actually gets done.

Worst case: nothing changes and it's now costed people more money. This is classic government.

This isn't going to keep people out, or help the budget. It's just pissing off the people that actually enjoy K-Country.

Lake Louise requires a pass. It also saw a massive amount of local Albertans within the park last year because of covid. There was also an uptick in the amount of garbage that was in the park than regular tourist seasons. Fees do not deter disrespectful fuckwads from coming out.

Here's a great idea: charge people for littering with the maximum fine when caught. Don't penalize the general population of users because specific individuals don't give a fuck and now collectively we need to all pay for their laziness.

Think about who's using the parks more now than ever before? People with the ability to travel abroad, not genuinely outdoorsy people who hike, bike or climb in K-Country every weekend. Those traveling abroad folks are now "stuck" using the Parks to do something and clearly like to shit in their own backyard. Fuck those people.
So if there's an uptick in the amount of garbage, the solution is to not hire people to remove the garbage?

I realize that people shouldn't be leaving garbage in the first place, but we're dealing with people, not individuals, and on that basis it's a given that more litter is going to be generated.

Also by garbage do you mean litter?

Government is a zero sum game. It either costs us on the front end or on the back end. Not paying more isn’t an option.

They're not glass. They're some sort of plastic that goes hazy faster than my coworker's senile mother's memory.
