Loblaws going east now too. There is a small grocery store nearby actually as well.

So yeah, this reno has been going on for years now. My buddy got kicked out of the building, they gave him $10K and all expenses reimbursed to relocate. That was at least 2.5 years ago now.

That thing is one hell of a crappy building.

    Kay’s is very close by, it’s a Sobey’s.

When people are new to calgary I still tell them to check out waydowntown, great movie and I really miss that era of downtown calgary
@rage2 I hear you on +15 access, I haven’t had +15 access for 6+ years, and I was supposed to move into Telus sky for work a week after covid lockdown hit *sigh*

+15 access is the greatest thing ever. Nothing is as alpha as walking around without a jacket in the middle of winter.

I wish they +15 condos to Superstore so you can shop in your pajamas. Will also make downtown condo living more tolerable.

+15 to Best Buy, Canadian Tire, everywhere... even +15 straight to the new arena hahaha

True baller move is heated garage to heated parkade then +15 to Hys for lunch.

    Whole day no Coat needed.

    Very expensively.
Exactly why it’s never done... and why it hasn’t been done in Calgary previously. Pretty much all the big boy developers have looked at it and bailed instantly.

Park at Bow parkade since it fits trucks, walk over to Hy’s, better than parking in TD square and mingling with the shoppers.

    No balconies either.

The plans are very nice, there’s only two units per floor last time I looked.

I did it one year. Ate a lot of Vietnamese food as that’s the only restaurant in the building. Non +15 building sucked, although I would drive to the core once in a while.

If we ever get back to the office, I’d love to do it for another year.

Other factors, people need places to shop. Right now groceries are off the CTrain in Kensington from this location. Safeway is a good 15min walk one way.

I worked very close to that spot for many years. No way would I live there after hours.
Safeway Beltline and Co-op midtown are way closer than kensington.

You can just take the train to city hall and shop at superstore if you dont have a car. Free fare downtown too.

Very low risk for redevelopment company. They'll get the grant money and very little (or none) of own capital into this project even if it fails.

They'll have no problem getting people into them. It's not a huge building by any means.

Been in it. It's small and I hope they do some elevator updates.
