Default Kid friendly, but "real" hair salon.

Suggestions for somewhere that is a "real" hair salon but not too stuck up pretentious or frankly expensive? Need somewhere to strip out some drugstore color and then dye back to a mostly natural shade on my preteen daughter. She's mildly disabled with sensory issues, so I feel like the standard "any salon will work on kids " answer will set us up for failure.

Not Beaners, that place is fine for a quick trim, but don't trust them for anything more. Ideally something cheaper than redbloom too....

    Ideas? North preferred.

I would call the salons around you to see what they can accommodate and price. Were mostly guys here(sorry if this was offensive to the non gender crowd) so we probably have no idea whats expensive for girls cut and dye and the more important thing is making sure they have a stylist that is capable for this. There should be lots in that crowfoot area and in the symons valley strip theres Chatters

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

Yeah I'll probably have to pick up the phone. Was a long shot that one of the dads had a recommendation that they've used for thier daughters.

Beaners is definitely capable of more, but I think she's too old for there.
This is going to be what you may consider very expensive, just so you're bracing yourself. Salons hate fixing drugstore dye and a person who really knows colour isn't cheap.
Are you ready for this to be $180+ ?

Geez, I wish I knew a place that I'd be confident wouldn't freak her out. It's loud noises and rapid movements that stress her out, right? Does she have headphones, ear buds or anything that have made previous salons successful?

SK Infinite is awesome and highly skilled, but I really don't know what kind of calm demeanor or level of quiet you need. They are in Kensington.

Yeah, $150-$200 is okay, just don't want to end up $400. I know womens haircuts can get pretty crazy for price, or is that just in movies? Being a dude is so much easier. I don't even think I could spend more than $50 on my own haircut.

Also, yeah, it's kinda hard to know what will set her off.

    Holy fucking money bags!

My wife says Angles is always very calm and the ladies are super nice and easy going with other preteen girls that have been there when she has gone in. She recommends giving them a call to see if they would be a good fit for your girl

We take my daughter to Madison Ave Salon in Dalhousie. Aliyah (not sure exactly how it's spelled) is great with kids. I'm not sure what the cost is, but we are pretty cheap so I suspect the cost is reasonable.

Maybe even ask if they could book a certain side for you? Im sure any good salon would do anything they could to help out, a cut/color is probably a couple hour process so it would be ideal to take out as much distractions as possible.

My wife spends on average $500 and thats with a friends discount for a cut and color

edit: maybe some beyonders can recommend a home based stylist, that would be as private as it gets
