Default Enbridge Line 5: Michigan Governor wants it shut down

what's everyone guess about what will happen here? Michigan governor wants Enbridge line 5 through the Straights of Mackinac shut down. Trudeau says it should stay operating.
Enbridge has a long term plan to replace that section with a new underground tunnel section, but that is years away.

    Thoughts?

There's a certain amount of schadenfreude about the idea that Ontario might be short of petroleum products because of a lack of pipelines, for sure. Not sure this will do anything to revive Energy East or competing all-Canadian options.

Hearing o ragan saying "we need the pipeline, otherwised we will be forced on truck and train which raises significant safety risks" made my head explode.

I find it hilarious that this is national news, but when the US cancelled a major infrastructure project here there wasnt a wimper.

As o ragan said, the oil will still get there. Im completely fine with it costing them as much as possible.

Might even get the conservatives some support in ontario

It would be good for central Canada to suffer at least a bit for the shitty policies they keep voting for

Surprised how many people think this shutting down is a good thing for Canada. Petty revenge against the east isn't worth the precedent that a whiney state can shutdown a pipeline. You think this will stop at line 5 if they actually shut it down? No, anti-oil groups will shift to the next target and keep pushing.

I don’t think anyone is making the argument that this is good for Canada.

But Canada is already a lost cause.

If someone is so enlightened that they claim that they can live without oil, I support enabling* them to do that.

*For a minimum 24 month period once they make the "informed" decision to sever themselves from the evil, toxic source.

Can the punishment for oil cheating be we drown them in a barrel of it?

That’ll be a hard reference for a lot of people.

I mean she’s in an alternate reality now.
