Easy place to start.. the mask mandate. Started earlier and extended longer.

It’s a smart move really. The 15-25% or so of “freedumb” people are either going with Johnston or farkas. This will give them a reason to go with farkas. But with a statement like this saying he is pro vax etc means he can play the other side too.

Which is exactly what the province let them do (and wanted them to do):

    https://www.alberta.ca/assets/docume...uly-7-2021.pdf

Can municipalities with face covering bylaws continue to require people to wear face masks in public spaces?

YES. Municipal councils may continue to have mask bylaws if the municipal council believes these bylaws are still required in their local community.

But that's just the provincial government's take. You talked about the Chief Medical Officer's recommendations, who still wears a mask to press conferences and continued to even when the province dropped its mask mandate before reinstating it.

But even before then, the province acted later than the CMO recommended masks because they were leaving it up to individual regions, which is what prompted municipalities to do it in the first place.

The rules vary by region, as the province has left it up to each individual municipality to set their own regulations. Alberta’s chief medical officer of health has said for months that she strongly recommends people wear masks when two metres of physical distance cannot be maintained.
    https://globalnews.ca/news/7240370/c...atory-alberta/

The city bylaw is basically about this, which is also from the first link:

Do community peace officers still have the extended authority to enforce the Public Health Act and Chief Medical Officer of Health’s Orders?

NO. Ministerial Order 24/2021, issued on June 2, 2021, extended the authorities of peace officers to enforce the Public Health Act. This ministerial order expired at 23:59 on July 1, 2021, and is not being extended.

Any municipal bylaws in effect related to enforcement during a public health emergency are not affected.

It's about allowing enforcement of the province's rules, since the province hasn't reinstated the extended authorities of peace officers. They're giving the power to peace officers to enforce the restrictions put in place by the province. They aren't going beyond what the CMO is recommending.

Yes. My guess is she will spend and spend (if that's possible at this time).

Also I have no idea who I want to replace Druh? Who's most about less spending and fiscal responsibility?

Heres what I was talking about with Farkas. His full explanation makes sense while other candidates push the "Farkas doesnt support health measures and vaccinations"

    From his FB page:

"I need to set the record straight on some recent baseless claims. To be clear: I support vaccination, have personally been vaccinated, and encourage others to do so if they are able. After mishandling by the provincial government, I understand why some want City Hall to try to step in and fix things. However, I did not agree with the City bringing in additional vaccine passport requirements on top of what the province has already implemented.

    Here’s why:
The Alberta vaccine passport program has problems, but it allows some limited flexibility for children aged 12-17 in certain situations. In contrast, this City system now requires 12-year-old children to be vaccinated in order to receive what many would consider essential services. The provincial program is confusing enough. The additional City requirements and contradictory rules will be even more burdensome on families and small business owners who are already struggling to navigate a very complex situation.
The provincial government is in charge of health. My focus has always been on ways that City Hall can help within our own areas of control, rather than make a bad situation worse. This election is about change versus more of the same. As we are in the final stretch of the campaign, I expect that smear attacks from these establishment politicians will continue. As always, I encourage you to contact me directly if you have any questions about me, my views, or a position I’ve taken.

    Jeromy"
That's obvious backtracking. All CoC did is make something optional mandatory. No essential service is impacted. That's weak and actually lost a few points in my book. Stay quiet and move on or stick with your ideology instead of excuses.

When a stupid policy is put in front of you, the default onus should be to say no to it.

What the city did was basically virtue signal about a policy that was already in place on the provincial level.

Businesses basically can’t open if they don’t opt in to the exemption program. What council did accomplished nothing by saying it’s mandatory to join the exemption program or you have to close.

And you think that’s good policy

The only thing it accomplishes is shifting blame from the business owners to City Hall, for the loudmouth anti-vaxxers. Not that it will matter when they're screaming at the waitress.

I screamed once. Got sat down, waited 45 minutes for someone to serve us. We literally saw people get sat down after us, get their food and leave.

Ok. Previous post may have indicated screaming was first and then your punishment was to sit for 45min and that helped you learn your lesson.

Well I'm always mostly crying, so there's that.

Also I usually have to pay extra to learn a lesson.

Wait I'm confused. Were you at a restaurant or was this some weird fetish kink thing you were paying an escort for?

Who would enforce it if they opened without opting into the exemption program? That is the key part of the municipal bylaw. The province hasn't re-enacted the power of peace officers to enforce these rules. A municipal bylaw is needed to give them that power.
