I must be getting too close to "old man shaking fist at cloud" status. I can't find a reason to vote in the municipal election. Gondek is worse than Nenshi and Farkas is psycho and nobody else has a chance. I still like Brad Field (knew him personally a lifetime ago, super stand up guy).

It's classic best of the worst. I'll be voting to try and keep Gondek out; if it means a vote for a psycho, so be it.

I haven't delved super deep into either of them, other than being the current front runners. What's wrong with both Gondek and Farkas?

Gondek is basically Nenshi 2.0. Votted the exact same basically the entire term.

I dont actually mind Farkas, my only complaint is the social media showboating. He seems to be the only one who actually stands up against the Council throwing money around. He is the Councillor for my Ward and was quick to respond to any questions with well thought out answers.

Farkas is the only logical choice. If you want more of the same bullshit then go up and vote for Jyoti...

The Olympics in 1988 didn't cost $5 billion

I'm not big on Farkas because he's essentially the guy that says no to everything regardless of what it is. In my opinion, he just says whatever will gain the most attention and the most difficult decision he's ever made is figuring out how everyone else will vote and vote the opposite.

Now, I don't have a problem with the latter. I think every council needs some kind of dissenting opinion. But when that dissenting opinion can't come from the Mayor.

The 88 olympics created a huge legacy of infrastructure. the recent bid had none of that, and was still 5 billion dollars. Would have been 15 or 20 billion to have comparable legacy involved.

Japan spent $16B. Expect $100B in legacy/benefits. Got wrecked by COVID, barely break even on the most optimistic estimate.

The recent bid had plenty of legacy infrastructure (and investment in the original legacy infrastructure that is in need of lifecycle improvements). We’re still building a bunch of it. Now there just isn’t the matching provincial and federal money to do it. So we are paying more and it will take longer.

The original draft agreement was basically for the city to commit $400M to get $2.1B from the province and feds. Now we’re committed to funding more than $400M in projects anyway.

He and his motley crew came to local businesses and community leaders. In particular those who were creating jobs and investing thousands of dollars in a time when the economy was tanking. They highlighted the countless red tape they faced when creating local jobs. He thrust his chest out and slapped his palm down and announced that he will get rid of all of this. He actually said that.
He got the votes and then became arrogant and dismissive in taking on the legitimate issues. Underneath the feel good factor and saying the right things. He is useless. He has no actual bureaucrat skills other than spend. He has no understanding of how projects are funded and to keep that sustainable.

He's singlehandedly kept many buffets open pre-pandemic.

Impressive dirty bulk since then too. Him and Rob Ford could be twins now.

So what do Farkas and Gondek bring to the table? I don't know much about either. Based on what I've seen about Farkas, he just seems like a douchebag that just says no to everything including yesterday which was obviously not the right choice.

    Farkas? Nothing, and that's point.

    No Green Line
    No Downtown revitalization
    No Alcohol in parks pilot
    No Proof of Vax

Jyoti rarely made the news cycle but basically she's Nenshi 2.0.

If you want Calgary as-is vote Jyoti. If you want government out of your life, vote Farkas.
