I wonder if pressure will be put on Chu to resign and let DJ take over, to "save face". Or what's left of face he has.

Erection results are here:

And looks like 52 votes indeed.
That sure was a huge jump from 29 to 30 tabulators...
It was a very important tabulator. Just in case Farkas was close or something.

Once he's elected, that's it, Kelly can't "take over". The only real option is to ask him to resign and if he does, have a by-election.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Alberta's recall legislation hasn't been proclaimed and would require significant effort to put into use if it was (you have to apply within 18 months of the election and then have 60 days from the application to get signatures of 40% of all eligible voters in the ward). And Section 574 of the MGA doesn't really seem to apply to anything other than the way the municipality is being managed, doubt the province would try to use it in this case in light of no criminal charges being laid at any point in the last 24 years
See Crank. See Crank Walk. Walk Crank Walk.
It’s basically just down to public opinion at this point, and as a guy who just got another term, likely his last, I don’t see why he would voluntarily resign.
Same shit as Magliocca, aside from saving face what’s the benefit of resigning? Maybe if the police offered a stay of charges if he stepped down? But there are no charges so that doesn’t even make sense.
Basically. Chu has literally no incentive to resign. So why would he.

He gets three pensions. He'll be fine. Once you're a councillor for a few years you're set for life.
Oh wait, he'll also have a police pension.
Mayor and Council elects are trying to oust him right now as well, so it's not just public opinion. Not sure how much power they have to do anything. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Digging past the outrage, you have the report where Chu says he didn't know she was underaged, went through a lie detector test (however accurate/inaccurate that is), and a witness corroborating the story.
Then you have the last minute updated story, with an unnamed source, that says it was at Husky House, which wasn't a 18+ bar.
https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/documents...icer-1.5628292
I'm not defending Chu at all, the unnamed source could be 100% accurate, the cops might have covered shit up, but immediate outrage based on unsubstantiated reports is something I also disagree with.
The news has been wrong before. The news has fucked over people's lives. Chu at least deserves a chance to prove his innocence IMO.
