It's interesting that they are try to oust him. Calgary's Future (Third party union advertister) got 8 of their preferred councilor candidates along with their preferred mayoral elected. They already have control of council for the most part.

The only twist here could be that they need that 10th vote for a guaranteed 2/3 majority to overturn past council decisions.

I hope it becomes an insane clown show of volatile-council similar to what happened in Nanaimo a few years ago. This definitely not a walking-talking, cunt stick, vehement homophobe, raging asshole esteemed public servant by the name of Bill Bestwick was part of that council along with a Mayor that no one seemed to get along with.
It was a hilarious soap opera! Google for news articles.

Calgarians are going to get what they deserve with this council.

Apparently if you tweet enough thoughts and prayers it just creates hundreds of thousands of jobs. Just like that.

Problem is unlike the feds municipal government doesn’t have the option of just printing and giving out free money.

    Lmao

I'm not surprised at all. My money is on her pulling one from California's book at the first heavy snowfall - "Calgary has never seen so much snow before, this is a climate emergency, ICE vehicles will be banned by 2030 so we can combat this grave climate emergency."

This is the one true argument against getting rid of equalization and not wanting Alberta separation; if everyone works towards destroying the province regardless, we might as well stay because the province will be a basket case whether we like it or not.

Also LOL rip Calgary oil related business.

Yes but starting with this as her #1 priority?!
This isn't going to be a government that is working for Calgary.

Next priority is what? Ensure taxes go up to cover priority #1?

Alberta has diversified excellently over the last decade as the oil and gas industry shrunk. Other sectors have valiantly gained percentage points of the economy by not shrinking as much.

In my experience you can always tax an industry into prosperity.

Maybe she can convince a bunch of companies to move to calgary for our greener image, lower taxes (corp and personal), affordable housing and educated workforce?

I don't think council has the ability to really change the economics of O&G projects here, but I could be totally wrong.

"Guys, Calgary's declared a climate emergency! Let's move our offices there!"

    Said no one ever.

Also someone is going to have to gently explain to her that the O&G isn't actually extracted anywhere near Calgary. We just have the support staff. They can move somewhere else.

That school bus driver who reported me and started the 'stunting ticket saga' is now one of my town councilors haha.
